Big Foundation-1 Update V-1.2 is out! Not only does it do infinite One-Shot samples but it also opens the doors to true prompt-based sound design: independently controlling instrument identity + timbre across playable text-to-synths! I also have a deep dive on how I did it! 👇

Ah yes. The US is banning Deepseek because the model may contain malware. It also may contain several kilograms of cocaine. We simply don't know.
The Department of Homeland Security is requiring all civilian federal agencies to remove DeepSeek products and 'any third-party services developed using DeepSeek implementations,' and to stop buying them.

You know what. I was originally really concerned about AI safety, but knowing Anthropic can only murder 49 people has really put my mind at ease.
So under Anthropic's bill, Anthropic can kill 49 people and steal up to a billion dollars before anyone can legally stop them

Intoxicating. I’ve been programming for 45 years, since so was 10. I’ve been a pro game coder for 33 years. Everything from hand coded assembly to UE 5.8. The paradigm shift to agentic coding is intoxicating. It is the biggest productivity jump I have ever experienced.

People joke, but there's absolutely no universe where Pokemon exist and people don't hunt them for sport.
Kanto banned this practice in 1999 but a black market still exists for the elite

BOOM! Well, I'll be damned if that's not the very BEST-sounding, 100% simulated/synthesized concert grand piano I've ever heard! FrankenSim.org/music What does that mean? ZERO recordings of real-world sounds were used (other than for comparison and diagnosis), nor were any measurements captured by microphones or similar. Literally everything from start to finish here was part of an enormously intricate physics simulation of a piano: its geometry, materials, moving parts, and acoustic radiation. Oh, and I did the same thing for a full drum kit and cymbals. The cymbals are modelled using the estimated geometry and dimpling pattern of a real Zildjian splash cymbal, together with estimated profile details and literature-based properties for B20 bronze alloy. For the most extreme audio quality, you can pre-render to WAV files or similar. But after many, many rounds of iterative performance optimization, I now have the wasm version running at better than real-time, so it sounds really good live in the browser as well! This is a big deal. It's shockingly hard to get truly realistic-sounding audio from synthesized instruments. The real world is just too complicated. What people usually end up doing is spending hundreds or thousands of dollars to buy these massive libraries of recorded sounds of a real piano, which takes up many gigs of space and is super slow to use. The worst part of that approach isn't the size of the files, the cost of the sample packs, or the inelegance of the approach. It's that EVEN THAT is a massive simplification, because they are recording each key separately at various key velocities and so forth. That means they are missing the very complex interaction effects that arise in a real piano when you play certain keys at the same time or after one another. The energy persists in the instrument and conditions the next sounds. It's subtle but real and you pick up on it when it's missing. And yes, they do try to capture some of this, but they use very lossy methods with more simplified approximations that are way more primitive than what I'm doing here with FrankenSim. I've invested a massive amount of time and focus on ensuring that the energy accounting is correct in these simulations. And the same thing goes for drums! There are complex interaction effects. These sorts of things are emergent and "just fall out" when everything is simulated for REAL using the actual underlying physics. So why haven't other companies and people done this? I'm not actually sure; it's kind of insane when you consider all those people working at Yamaha, Roland, Korg, Moog, etc. But my guess is that it's because it's super hard and complicated to get all the physics right and to program it the right way so that it's tractable without needing crazy amounts of compute. Anyway, take a look at this demo site I set up. It's a lot of fun to play with, and at the bottom there is a nifty MIDI player that takes any MIDI file and lets you listen to it with the high-quality simulated piano and drums in the browser. This is the culmination of months of work and hundreds of billions of frontier tokens. It all started when I wanted to see what Fable 5 could really do, so I thought of the most comically ambitious project I could think of: FrankenSim, the system that unifies ALL of physics into a single coherent and cohesive simulation across all domains: mechanics, fluid dynamics, electricity and magnetism, etc., instead of modeling each domain as a separate silo, where each domain can use the same generic geometric primitives, solvers, calculus machinery, etc. All unified using the language of sheaf cohomology to maintain consistency between representations, and where everything is made as legible, intuitive, and ergonomic to AI agents as possible. This music simulation stuff is just the beginning. Beyond many more instruments, I'm going to be using FrankenSim to model HVAC systems, fluid flow through plumbing systems, and more!

If there was ever a meme that perfectly summed up realizing you were going to be raided by the FBI. It would be this one.
BREAKING: A Saudi national/OpenAI employee has been arrested by the FBI after he was allegedly caught placing an eavesdropping/audio recording device inside of OpenAI’s executive conference room in San Francisco, CA. Feds say Abdulrahman Alfozan made his first appearance in federal court today. OpenAI says they immediately contacted the FBI after they discovered the device & are grateful the feds made a quick arrest. Alfozan was caught on CCTV cameras at OpenAI. From the complaint: “Alfozan had been employed as an engineer by the company identified as “Company 1” since July 2025. On or about Sept. 30, Company 1 personnel discovered a surreptitious audio recording device (Recording Device 1) inserted into a USB port on the back of a television in an executive conference room inside one of Company 1’s buildings in San Francisco. Company 1 determined that the device, which had been concealed in toilet paper, was installed on or about Sept. 28, and that its contents were encrypted.”

a good reminder: some of the biggest games started as mods - Counter-Strike ← Half-Life - Dota / League of Legends ← Warcraft III - Team Fortress ← Quake - DayZ ← Arma 2 - PUBG ← DayZ Battle Royale entire genres were born from mods we're entering a golden era of gaming
When people ask why I’ve been bullish on ai gaming, this is why We’ve drastically underestimated the creativity and passion of gamers, because they didn’t have the tools or skills to bring their ideas to llife But now with AI, that’s all changed

Nearly 30 years later, modders are making Ganondorf playable in Ocarina of Time. Frankly it's about time we heard his side of the story.

Lately I've been using OBS to record gameplay w/ VO and I got tired of A/B ing audio streams. For some reason VLC and (and other players) let you listen to ONLY 1 track at a time on multi track vids. So I put together a simple player that will let you immediately watch / listen to multi track MKV files and export the individual audio streams.

The same tech powering Master Chief in Super Mario 64 will eventually open source NVIDIA's software stack. Someone's going to vibecode a universal CUDA that runs on any GPU, forcing NVIDIA to actually compete on price. AI made GPUs expensive. But it could make them cheap again.

Gaming and programming have never been more exciting than they are right now. Seriously we’re living in the golden age and no one can convince me otherwise.
Skate 3 is now FULLY PLAYABLE in the browser!🚨 I'm averaging 360fps LOCKED with no graphics downscaling at all. This technology is magic. It was created by an 18 year old Cyber Security Student over the course of a few days. It runs on any device - mobile, tablet, pc, etc. Also it has multiplayer support🤯 I would have played this in school all day everyday with my friends back in the day...

America taught the world open source. Then it stopped doing it. Linux, GCC, Python, PyTorch. Google published the Transformer paper for free. Everything modern AI stands on came from people who gave their work away, and most of them were in the West. That was your advantage. The best ideas were public in your part of the world, so the best people came to you. Now look at 2026. OpenAI sells access. Anthropic sells access and writes posts about why open weights are dangerous. And the labs putting models on Hugging Face are Alibaba, DeepSeek, Zai, Moonshot and MiniMax. China did not steal this idea. You stopped using it and they started. Every developer who learns on Qwen instead of GPT is a developer you lost. Nobody brainwashed him. He just typed hf download in his terminal and pressed enter. Want to win? Do what made you win the first time. Release the weights.

Adobe about to start rolling out $12,000 early termination fees.
This guy re-created all the adobe apps with opus-5.5, ported them to rust, and opensourced them something really cool is happening
Community note
These projects are partial open-source Rust reimplementations of Adobe apps (built rapidly with AI agents), not complete recreations; their READMEs and roadmaps document many missing features and features still in development. github.com/storytold/phot… github.com/storytold/vect… github.com/storytold/vect… github.com/storytold/film… github.com/storytold/film… github.com/storytold/ligh… getartcraft.com

In a way, being able to reverse engineer all software is the ultimate end state of open source. I'm currently playing an Xbox 360 game natively on Switch 1. (360 emulation doesn't exist for Switch) Also Mass Effect + MoH Allied Assault. Not sure how much soul they have tho.
