Solid performances elevate #Primetime (Gisondo > Pattinson) and #ResidentEvil (Austin Abrams), two imperfectly okay early fall releases. Did I finally find a Zach Cregger film I didn't despise? Hell just froze over. My @miamiartzine reviews: bit.ly/4rzUjtZ
FLESH AND FUEL: @OUTshineFilm's men's spotlight selection is a real beaut, a clear-eyed portrait of love among European truckers that depicts the punishing toil of the road and its ruggedly handsome protagonists' blossoming bond with grit and tenderness. BRIEF ENCOUNTER vibes. A-
‘COYOTE VS ACME’ has passed ‘SUPERGIRL’ to become the highest-grossing movie produced by Warner Bros this Summer.
The film was almost permanently deleted by Warner Bros for a tax write-off.
In a June interview with Variety, now former chairman of Netflix’s film division Dan Lin said, "There is a group of filmmakers who still want theatrical. Those are filmmakers that we’ve accepted we just won’t work with."
I did not forget this remark.
#LaBolaNegra: A photogenic celebration of male desire, and exquisite bubble butts, that goes beyond its thoughtful exploration of homophobia to comment on Spain & its skeletons. Bold, flashy, confident & agile despite its lumpy back-and-forth structure. The hype is warranted. B+
Cops: 14-year-old Davion Gil and 16-year-old Guiyermo Spillman, were arrested, after a Miami Beach to SW Miami-Dade to Broward crime spree that included a home invasion and theft of a $260,000 Mercedes G-Wagon and subsequent crash and bailout. @wsvn#1stOn7
The use of generative AI to this extent is never okay. Even if it is beginning to look less like AI slop. Even if it potentially opens doors to filmmakers to do things they would otherwise be unable to due to logistical or budgetary reasons.
That is all.
