We are living through a moment that demands leadership. This agreement is leadership in action.
It demonstrates the power of trust, solidarity, and shared purpose at the Southern Poverty Law Center.
We are ready for the fight ahead.
This agreement is a testament to the power of collective bargaining, providing better protections and well-deserved recognition for the workers who drive the SPLC's impact across the South and beyond.
We just ratified our second contract since we formed our union in 2019.

The workers of the SPLC have ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the SPLC's management after nine months of negotiations.
This is the second contract the
SPLC Union has ratified since its formation in 2019, and it includes multiple new pro-labor provisions that will contribute to the organization's health and resilience during a time when the work of the SPLC's line staff is more crucial than ever.

Our first contract dramatically improved
pay and benefits at the SPLC.
This contract takes it a step further by providing additional protections and responding to the threats that our members face today.

After mass layoffs in 2024, SPLC's leaders had a lot of work to do in restoring our members' sense of security and dignity.
And they still have a ways to go on that front.
But we're sincere in our belief that the organization and its work truly benefit when staff wellbeing is a priority, and management responded to that sincerity during the bargaining process.
SPLC Union members had the bravery to use their full names in this @guardian story about our recent vote of no confidence in Margaret Huang’s leadership.

Through a dedicated donor base who believe in the SPLC’s mission to advance racial justice and human rights in the South, revenue increased significantly over the years: $149 mil in 2021; $169 mil in 2022; and $170 mil in 2023.
Today, SPLC holds $749 mil in total assets.
One SPLC staffer wrote, "I can't even survive basic cost of living right now … Your employees deserve better. We deserve to not have to live paycheck by paycheck when we know the center has more than enough funds for it.” SPLC leadership laid them off in June.
Huang made $454,624 annually as of 2023. Other top paid execs make over $200k.
Meanwhile, SPLC refused to set a floor of $50k salary for all workers during contract negotiations. Some SPLC staff even have to work second jobs.
Were @splcenter's layoffs retaliation? President and CEO Margaret Huang might be all smiles in front of the camera, but behind what she thought were closed doors, here’s how she talks about her staff.
.@splcenter is telling staff to mislead donors about the impact of its massive layoffs.
In an email, they said that news of the elimination of our immigrant justice work and Learning for Justice was "misinformation."
But how can these programs continue without workers?
Happy International Workers’ Day, comrades! We’re proud to struggle towards a better world for all of us alongside each of you. #1u#unionizethedeepsouth
Looking good! 📸 Our fellow workers gathered this week at the Legal Department Retreat to show our power and solidarity. Members connected with one other over mutual concerns and their shared vision for the future of our work.
Our @splcenter colleagues in #NewOrleans showed up to support us today as we took to the streets to picket management's decision to force the lowest-paid employees - many of whom are Black women - back to the office full time.

Call 888-414-7752 or send a message via this link to tell @splcenter management to TRUST EMPLOYEES to make the best decisions for themselves and their families and to PROTECT ALL WORKERS by providing remote/telework opportunities. #WeAreNotTheHelp
A new variant is emerging, gas prices are higher than ever—why is @SPLCenter forcing its lowest-paid Black women workers back to the office during a time when the impacts are most acute, while white employees work comfortably from home? #LowestPayHighestCost
HAPPENING NOW!
We're holding an informational picket outside @splcenter's HQ in Montgomery to protest management’s forcing mostly Black women employees to return to the office while allowing the option of remote work for white & higher-paid employees. #1u
The AOPs wanted to share this timeline and their experiences throughout these negotiations. They hold strong to their Southern star and are guided by the SPLC mission.

The @splcenter has recently revamped its mission and vision ahead of its 50th anniversary. You can read it here. Walk with us why we explain how this mission is directly related to our fight for a better SPLC.
In the days and weeks to come, we want to share more about some of the things we’re fighting for in a contract. So, be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, we want to share our union's values. They keep us grounded and are central to our fight. splcunion.org/about/
Last night, eight people were killed in a mass shooting. Six of them were Asian women. Our hearts go out to those we lost yesterday and their loved ones who are grieving today.

We stand in solidarity with @BAmazonUnion! Please share their stories and support them in their fight for basic dignity, respect, safety and a union that will fight for them!
