25% of our active users still use a Quest 2
The average age of headsets in use on SteamVR. I think this is actually a pretty useful metric because it helps understand the balance between existing users who keep using their headset vs. hardware that's attracting people to upgrade (or join VR for the first time). This value consistently getting higher suggests PC VR hardware hasn't been 'hot' enough to drive upgrades for a while. This data is as of September, so Steam Frame hasn't entered the picture yet. Granted, I don't expect it to make a very big impact to this chart.

Feels like the only solution will be to build a game where you encourage fans to mod your game with AI and build a pipeline where they can ship their mod back into the main game.

Why would you buy this versus Meta VR Glasses?
XREAL Aura starts from $1,279. I guess the price has been carefully studied so as not to be more than Meta VR Glasses. Even if the devices are different (this one is AR, the other is MR/VR), they share some use cases, and XREAL wanted to be sure to be more affordable. I think it's a fair price for what it offers. I tried it at AWE and it seemed to me a pretty solid AR device. What are your thoughts? #AugmentedReality #AR #China #XREAL

This was the Connect where projects that previously seemed disparate started to converge
I took these photos during Connect, and thinking about the intersection of these technologies is extremely exciting. From VR, where I started, to wearables and now AI with Muse, there’s so much to explore. If you asked me where to focus today, I’d 100% recommend learning agentic workflows inside and out. Grab a Quest 3/3S, start building, and keep Meta VR Glasses on your radar! But never forget your core skills. Keep coding, designing, and applying your own taste. Don’t let the noise around bad AI practices keep you from exploring these tools and developing skills that I believe will be incredibly valuable going forward.

100% We’d love to replace Meta Avatars in @weareFitXR
They should very much reconsider and build a new "Avatar Expressions" API. Even with varied fidelity, it makes little sense to withhold abstracted data from devs if the hardware supports it. Really hope we don't get a repeat of the QPro launch where features were unfinished.

What is the most optimistic case here @jmdagdelen Couple of million units sold? Return of premium download gaming?
It might not save VR, but Steam Frame is going to change the world.

If you’re a VR dev and have been sitting on an idea for an older / female skewing audience but have been put off by the current market... now is the time to build
You know who’s most excited for Meta VR Glasses in my house? MY WIFE! She wants to enjoy VR with me but HATES wearing the Quest. Messes with her hair, heavy, uncomfortable. I think the form factor will open the market to more people than “they” think, who Quest didn’t serve.

I’m getting so many messages from people who left VR and are now very, very interested in coming back! It’s so great to hear how much excitement there is around XR development, both from our Meta VR Glasses announcement and from other devices bringing more interest to the space. Again, we all rise together! 🚀

100% People have debated the blocker to adoption for years... ultimately it is simply that not enough consumers could envision themselves wearing a bulky plastic headset We saw this firsthand time and time again when trying to position a headset as fitness equipment for @weareFitXR
Today was the best day in the history of VR/AR.

I’ve been saying this all along. This is what actually happened. Ignore all the noise about Apple canceling Vision. Apple didn’t give up on headsets. Meta VR Glasses and Pico Space Pro will likely push Apple to make its decision faster.
I have to say this again. Here is what actually happened. Apple did pause the Vision Air project last year, but not because it gave up on headsets. Internally, Apple concluded that Vision Air was still not light or thin enough. So the company chose a more aggressive path instead. That new project is roughly similar in direction to Meta’s Phoenix, a much lighter and thinner headset. It is being developed by a separate, newer team inside Apple. Apple will probably run another internal review toward the end of this year, comparing Vision Air with this newer, more aggressive direction, before making a final decision on which product to move forward with.

Meta VR Glasses is a whole new hardware category. The move from headset to glasses is reminding me of iPod -> iPhone. I have a feeling the VR glasses form-factor are going to be the driver behind mass adoption.

Replying to @Scobleizer
I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I learned a lot when I started the Google Glass project. A key insight was how important human eye contact is. Removing the ability to see someone's eyes when talking with them negatively changed the entire dynamic. So, while I am impressed with Meta's new glasses, they continue the huge error (imho) of blocking eye-to-eye contact. I don't think any glasses that are dark / block you from seeing another person's eyes will have mainstream, broadly appealing success.

“Nerd helmet” 😂😂😂
Meta has new audio-only Ray-Ban glasses, VR glasses that no longer look like a nerd helmet and a new voice-and-video mode for its Muse AI agent. I sat down with @finkd to talk about it all. And yes, we got into trust, privacy and that tiny matter of whether AI might kill us...

NEW: Meta debuts $1,299 VR Glasses at 100 grams by offloading the battery and compute to an external pack. In a demo, it's pretty close to the Apple Vision Pro at less than half the price and 1/6th the weight. They are incredible. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
