Civilians and journalists should never be targets. I'm horrified by attacks on Palestinian villagers and Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine. This attack, along with reports that nearby Israeli security forces did not intervene, demands a full investigation and real accountability—as do the many other instances of settler violence against Palestinian civilians and land in the West Bank. This is exactly why I introduced the West Bank Violence Prevention Act. Extremist settler violence, which endangers lives and undermines peace and security in the region, must end.

I am deeply disturbed by the alleged white supremacist plot to attack a Hindu temple in Aurora, Illinois. This kind of Anti-Hindu and anti-Indian hate should have no place in our country. Grateful to law enforcement for acting swiftly and stopping this attack. We must have zero tolerance for this violence and must work together as one people to end it.

The mass shooting at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend is another horrifying act of violence that has struck our schools. Our schools should be places of safety, dedicated to education and community. No parent should be afraid to drop their kids off at school. But too often, they are now the site of horrible sadness and atrocities. My heart is with the victims, their families, and the entire community. Members of Congress owe it to every family affected by gun violence to pass meaningful reforms so this never happens again. I will not rest until every childhood is free from the scourge of gun violence.

I’ve stood with Gabriela Soto, an American citizen, as she fought to bring her husband home from ICE detention. Yesterday, Martin was finally released after 9 months away from his two young children and pregnant wife. He could not be there for Gaby as she endured a devastating late miscarriage. Martin is home, but the hardship this family endured cannot be undone. Delaney Hall should be closed. We will continue standing with Gaby and every family still waiting to be reunited.
