A yahoo boy from my department got married last year. The wedding was the talk of the town. He used about 3 cows, multiple goats and more. He was already building a house at the time.
The project stopped at lintel stage. He stopped cashing out, started eating into his savings and never recovered. The store he opened for his wife was nearly emptied because of his hard drug habit.
His wife reached out to me recently to help find him a job. She said they could barely feed.
I told her to ask him to text me.
He refused. He said his pride would not allow him text someone who was trekking and barely changing shirts while he was driving back in school.
She begged me to text him first instead.
I refused. I said when his pride drops, he will text.
He finally texted.
"Please look for a job for me but the salary should not be less than 150,000 naira."

My friend from school came to visit yesterday and asked me to help him get a laptop for 240,000 naira.
I told him I could not cover the full amount but if he had 100,000 naira, I would augment the rest. He said he had nothing and begged me to give him the full amount.
I stood my ground and told him that when he has 100,000 naira, we go together and I pay for everything even if it exceeds 250,000 naira. He said okay and left.
He got home and texted me:
"I begged you to help me buy a small laptop for my work but you refused. Don't forget I was there with you when you were broke in school. Even before you bought your car, I was still your friend. I have never asked you for help, but just this once I did and you couldn't."
Then he said if I do not help him, I should not consider myself his friend anymore.
