Man, I'm sorry, but my inner Resident Evil fan can't stand it much xD.
Haven't seen much being said about this particular element, but here are my two cents on this.
Listen, claiming a movie is passable as a "Resident Evil" film because the protagonist and story is treated as a POV of a random civilian surviving a zombie event in Racoon City instead of known popular characters is not a good argument. Wasn't it confirmed that the script for the new "RE" movie was done BEFORE it was slapped the title of RE?
What makes Resident Evil isn't just about survival.
If there's not going to be any popular known characters from the games, that's fine as long as the rest of the film is Resident Evil. Problem is: nothing else about the movie is Resident Evil, sorry.
If it's going to be a movie about the story of Racoon City's outbreak, then there's supposed to be a T-virus and a G-virus, both of which have very specific symptoms, VERY specific mutations and potential variants based on environment and circumstances - not random new monster mutations.
If it's a new character outside of the main stories and characters, fine - there isn't any need for a Mr. X or Nemesis in that case - but for crying out loud...at least make the regular zombies and monsters be accurate to the damn T-Virus and G-Virus mutations.
The ultimate T-virus mutation is the Tyrant. The ultimate mutation of G is the Golgotha monster - a mass of regenerating limbs, eyes and teeth, which we only get to see handled in the RE2 game through Doctor Birkin. Any other G-related creature was part of the failed reproductive attempts, which are called G-adults. These still ended up looking pretty much the same.
No RE characters, no RE viruses, no RE mutations/monsters. Only RE in name.
I can't believe I'm saying this xD but even Welcome to Raccoon City tried to have accuracy about stuff like Birkin/G, and such - even if that movie was also dog water.
It's not hard to make a RE movie. Just be a massive fan of the RE games, play em, write something basing straight off the games. Most of the RE games are half cutscenes. It's not that hard to follow. Any real fan likes to read through the documents/files in-game to understand the deeper lore stuff. And a fan director would know not to have to actually describe said deep lore with literal files in a movie, instead showing the lore, or even at least discussing it via smart dialogue or something.
FFS, watch a youtube documentary or something about the deep lore or stuff that is a bit harder to understand via just one playthrough.
And saying that making a film 1-1 based off the games is boring or repetitive is dishonest. As a RE fan, there's nothing I'd want more than a proper movie/series adaptation of what happens in the games, because I'd love to see it without playing it - and because I want normies to see WHY we love it to begin with!
