For too long, DeFi has relied on external bots to watch the chain and trigger transactions.
We wanted to change that.
With Somnia Reactivity, smart contracts can respond to onchain events automatically, in the very same block.
Making it work was a different story. Here’s what it took to build it.

Speed unlocks better DeFi experiences.
And we’re about to turn things up a notch.
Fast apps start with fast blocks
Among L1s, the quickest chains produce blocks up to 167x faster than the slowest. Milliseconds versus seconds is a gap users feel every day.

Somnia Reactivity now has over 6,500 subscriptions on mainnet, with recorded reactions executing in the same block as the events that triggered them.
But getting here was far from straightforward.
Be on the lookout as we’re soon pulling back the curtain on Reactivity: why we built it, the engineering challenges we underestimated, what went wrong along the way, and what it could unlock for DeFi.

USDso is designed to keep yield flowing within the Somnia ecosystem.
As we look to bring onboard more DeFi applications, our goal is to capture that yield and direct it towards eligible protocols, helping them incentivise users and drive growth.
Here’s how our approach differs from traditional stablecoins.

Blockchains rely on deterministic execution. Bringing external data and AI into that environment means validators need a way to agree on the results.
Somnia Agents allow smart contracts to access external data and run AI inference, with validators independently executing the agents and reaching consensus on the results.
Great breakdown from @luganodes on how it all works under the hood 👇

Smart contracts are deterministic. That's their strength and their limit since on their own they can't call an API, read a web page, or run an AI model.
@Somnia_Network built Somnia Agents to close that gap. A thread on how Somnia validators run them 🧵👇

There’s some cool stuff our team has built that we haven’t shared publicly yet.
That changes today.
Over the coming weeks, we’re opening up what’s happening behind the scenes at Somnia, the tech, the thinking behind it, the breakthroughs, and the bottlenecks along the way.
No polished success stories. Just what we’re actually building and learning.
First up: Somnia Markets 🧵

And we’re not finished.
The next step is bigger than one exchange.
We’re working towards making Somnia Markets, Somnia Tokyo (More on this soon) and the underlying Somnia L1 infrastructure that a much wider range of financial applications can build on.
The two things we’ll keep pushing?
⬆️ Throughput
⬇️ Latency

The bigger question we’re trying to answer is simple:
How much of the financial infrastructure that historically couldn’t practically exist onchain can we bring onchain?
We don’t have the final answer yet.
But the progress we’re making across throughput and latency gives us a pretty interesting place to keep pushing from.
Give us your best guess at the number of orders Somnia Markets can execute a second 👇

Somnia Markets is one of our key primitives. And you probably have no clue what it is.
The same goes for a lot of what we’re building behind the scenes.
Tomorrow, we’re opening things up with a new Build in Public series, sharing what we’re building, how it all fits together, and what we’re learning along the way.
The goal is simple: to be more transparent with the community.
Stay tuned.
