Rex. Nano vs. T. Rex has long been a subject of debate in paleontology. Now, thanks to recently published research, we know that Nanotyrannus is not an adolescent T. Rex, but rather a distinct genus of dinosaur. That’s where Jodi comes in. Come meet Jodi at #SothebysNewYork >> bit.ly/3VH491r Jodi was discovered in Garfield County, Montana by rancher Jodi Pierson, near the dig site of the famed ‘Dueling Dinosaurs.’ Jodi was excavated by her cousin, renowned commercial paleontologist Clayton Phipps (aka the ‘Dinosaur Cowboy') who just so happened to have also excavated the 'Dueling Dinosaurs.' Here, Sotheby’s Cassandra Hatton, Phipps and Pierson describe Jodi’s excavation, its significance for science and how, at the end of the day, finding this specimen was a family affair.

Urban Jürgensen's revival in the 1980s championed traditional watchmaking and is forever embodied by its Reference 2 and Reference 3 wristwatches. This November, two examples of these defining models will hit the auction block at #SothebysGeneva. Register to bid now >> bit.ly/4dXASWH Introduced under Peter Baumberger and developed during master watchmaker Derek Pratt's era, the Reference 2 was the manufacture's first wristwatch to feature a perpetual calendar, introducing the observatoire-style hands that would become a signature of the house. Approximately 175 examples are believed to have been produced, with this pink-gold iteration including its original box and paperwork. The Reference 3 built on its predecessor with a power reserve indicator beneath the moon-phase display at 12 o'clock. Incorporating this complication without increasing the watch's dimensions reportedly required two years of development. Production was extremely limited, with only a small proportion believed to have been cased in platinum, like this No. 075.

The earliest known Lange 1 in stainless steel officially hits the auction block this November at #SothebysGeneva. Register to bid now >> bit.ly/4zoUeMj Dating to 1996, it is one of only 30 examples ever produced and the sole wristwatch made in steel by the brand before the Odysseus' arrival in 2019. It's also said to have been acquired directly by Günter Blümlein, one of the two visionaries behind the brand's revival. Introduced in 1994, the Lange 1 remains A. Lange & Söhne's most iconic reference. From its debut, it was celebrated for its classical yet distinctive aesthetics, as well as for being the first serially produced wristwatch to feature an outsized date display. Fresh to market, the timepiece is accompanied by a preserved handwritten note from its original owner, who happened to be neighbors with Blümlein in Schaffhausen when he purchased it in the '90s.

Just announced: more than 20 works will kick off The New York Sales in Visionary: The Extraordinary Collection of Theodore and Ruth Baum: bit.ly/4yziRGh This dedicated evening sale highlights the artists who revolutionized contemporary art, with many works appearing at auction for the first time in decades. The Baums were storytellers in every sense, which guided their curiosity as they built a collection that transcended movements, generations and geographies. They traveled the world in pursuit of great works by the visionaries of American abstraction, the innovators of Pop, Minimalism and Conceptualism, and the radical experimenters of Postwar Italian art. On 16 November, works by Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell, Ed Ruscha and more will auction at #SothebysNewYork in a dedicated evening sale, presented in partnership with @celineofficial. Four timepieces. Three decades. One unifying complication: the Patek Philippe automatic perpetual calendar. Register to bid >> bit.ly/3UeMNIP Coming soon to #SothebysGeneva, these four references trace the evolution of one of the Swiss maison's defining complications. Leading the group is the Ref. 3448G, with only approximately 80 white-gold examples believed to have been produced. The Ref. 3450, circa 1984, marks the final evolution of the 3448, introducing a leap-year indication while retaining its iconic ‘Padellone' form. In 1985, the Ref. 3940 reimagined the perpetual calendar with a 36mm case and ultra-thin calibre 240 Q. Rounding out the group is the Ref. 3945/1, circa 1994, bringing the complication into a more contemporary form with its distinctive lugless case and integrated bracelet.
