Is simply making up a complex passphrase with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters actually a good idea?

Make sure to keep your passphrase separate from your seed words.
Don’t make it simple just so you can remember it. Make it complex and record it in metal, and hide it somewhere separate from your seed.

⚠️ NEVER enter your seed words into a website.
A Trezor user reportedly lost their life savings after clicking a sponsored Google ad that impersonated Trezor and entering their recovery phrase into the fake site.
Phishing sites can buy ads and appear above legitimate search results.
Before clicking, check the actual URL carefully. In the image below you can see it is different from trezor.io, and shows google.com. That mismatch means the ad points to a Google Sites page built to mimic Trezor and harvest recovery seeds. Just because it says "Google" does not mean it is safe.
And remember:
Your seed words should NEVER be entered online or into a website, app, form, or computer.
Only enter them directly into a trusted hardware wallet when absolutely necessary.
Your seed phrase = your Bitcoin.
Anyone who gets it can take everything.

If you're planning on stamping a 25th-word passphrase that combines the kit’s included uppercase letters or numbers with ClearCode lowercase or special characters, we do not recommend mixing the two fonts, as some characters may be difficult to distinguish later. Use ClearCode Uppercase + Numbers with ClearCode Lowercase + Special Characters for a consistent and, more importantly, easy-to-decipher character set.

TREZOR USER CLAIMS LIFE SAVINGS STOLEN AFTER CLICKING PHISHING SITE IN GOOGLE SPONSORED RESULT
A Trezor user says they lost their life savings after clicking what they claim was a sponsored Google search result impersonating Trezor.
The phishing page, hosted on Google Sites, allegedly tricked victims into entering their wallet recovery seed.
Trezor says it is escalating the report, working to have the site removed, and has reminded users to never enter a wallet backup or seed phrase into any website or online form.
Google-sponsored phishing ads remain a persistent attack vector for crypto users.
