Last week we celebrated Dr. William Rhine’s retirement! In Bill's words, the event put an “exclamation point” on his 47 years @StanfordMed. Bill became a faculty member with us in 1989, and his departure marks the end of remarkable chapter in our Division’s history. Bill's contributions to our community and the field of neonatology have been vast. His co-directorship of our ECMO program, role as @StanfordChild NICU Medical Director for 16 years, and past presidency of @CANcoolNEO are just a few examples of his well-respected leadership. He promoted a culture of quality improvement in our nurseries and throughout the state, and readily adopted, refined, and advocated for technologies in neonatal care, like inhaled nitric oxide and noninvasive physiologic monitoring. Bill’s enthusiasm to visit NICUs around the globe to observe, learn, and share his expertise is unmatched. (He’s visited 128 to date!) We will sorely miss his wisdom, compassion, and dedication! Congratulations to you, Dr. Rhine!!
