India’s finished steel consumption reached 85.0 million tonnes in H1 FY 2026–27, registering 7.6% growth over the corresponding period last year. In September 2026, consumption increased by 7.7% year-on-year to 14.4 million tonnes. SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant, in collaboration with LEADS Ranchi, has launched a three-month training programme in Kantha stitching and fabric painting for 22 women from Nuagaon block under its CSR initiative. The programme aims to promote self-employment, preserve traditional crafts and strengthen women’s economic independence by developing marketable skills and linking finished products with sales outlets.
