New condo sales in Metro Vancouver are tracking even lower than last year, like 50% lower. The pre-sale condo market is completely dead.

LOL and Canada wants to become an associate member…

Late breaking Friday good news: Roberts Bank Terminal 2, the major expansion of Canada’s biggest port, the Port of Vancouver, has become the second major project to be designated in the national interest. It’s where the Pacific Link pipeline terminus is also expected to be. theglobeandmail.com/business…

We have to get back to what made this country great: over-leveraged speculators buying a shit ton of dog crate condos.

Canadian heavy crude price differentials are at their widest level on record under WTI in Cushing, Houston, and on the West Coast of Canada. The primary Hardisty differential is en route to its widest diff since the 2018 blowout that prompted provincial production curtailment.

Doerskon says he will rescind Bill 44, the mandated multiplex zoning province wide. Is open to an overhaul of the short term rental restrictions. It’s hard to understate how bad housing constriction will be for the next few years. More policy changes coming im sure.

Our own government agency just admitted we added way more people than new housing completions. This is despite new home completions running close to record highs!

Canada published draft stablecoin regulations on Oct 24. Target to be in force: fall 2027. Issuers register with the Bank of Canada, back 1:1, redeem at par. Payment firms moving stablecoins come under the RPAA. Provincial securities regulators still oversee what trading platforms list. Comments close Dec 23. At @Netcoins, we want as many stablecoin use cases as possible for our clients and are building out new payment capabilities to support this growth. gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2026/…

Andrew Coyne says Canada's population boom had little to do with home prices and... ➡️ growth only spiked in 2021 ➡️ there's no correlation with prices ➡️ the 1950s grew 2%/yr without a price explosion. The numbers say otherwise 🧵⤵️
1. Population growth, 1980-2025. The spike doesn't begin until 2021, and lasts until 2024.

EU is hitting Canadian steel, iron & aluminum with carbon border charges starting in 2027. $2.8B exposed. No exemptions despite our domestic carbon price. Meanwhile, they are backing away from the “associate membership” label. Quite the start, eh.

Ben makes a good case for why the Bank of Canada shouldn’t be raising rates tomorrow. Policy error forthcoming.
Here it is: Why I think 80% odds of a BoC rate hike tomorrow is CRAZY and why I think it would be a mistake. May age like milk, but I'd love to hear the pushback to the thinking.

Many of our institutions are ideologically captured.
The BC teachers union president issued this statement today 🥴 "I recognize that with the outcome of a Conservative government, many of us may be feeling disappointed, scared, or deeply concerned about what might come next. I know these results may be particularly concerning for Indigenous, racialized, and 2SLGBTQIA+ members. You are not alone."
