Author of Wonder Strikes: Approaching Aesthetics and Literature with William Desmond. Co-author of Byung-Chul Han: A Critical Intro Editor of New Verse Review

For years, my father fell asleep watching a documentary about a man who lived a solitary life in a hand-built cabin in Alaska. This is my strange poem about that strange nightly ritual. Many thanks to THINK journal for giving it a home.

An average person's experience of AI is that it jumps at us uninvited in everything, fucks up Google Search, ruins our experience of seeing cute videos as it forces us to constantly check if they're real, pumps out bullshit, fuels propaganda, etc.
The differing perceptions of AI are wild. The country just voted against data centers on 40+ provisions nationwide and hates AI. (Plenty of legitimate gripes.) But most of those people are just unaware that AI is finding a new cancer cure or treatment weekly, going through decades of peer reviewed data and uncovering mountains of errors, that its correcting, throughout every academic field. Replacing billions of man hours of drudgery. Closest thing to a “miracle” I’ve ever witnessed. When I talk to people outside of tech/VC, they’re just unaware of all of it.

This system is simply the worst--especially the weekly TV show.
A friend notes: Tennessee and Alabama each have two losses. Tennessee’s were both by a field goal or less. Alabama is ranked 5 and Tennessee is 13. Tennessee beat Alabama 26-10. The Committee is insane or corrupt. Or both.

I’m not Catholic but I am a Christian and regardless of that, this is a work that is sorely needed in the world today. Intelligent thoughts, inspired by faith, on the value and responsibilities of being human and stewarding our tech and ourselves in these troubled times.

Humanists should be snobby about the fact that they are stewarding a tradition that stretches back thousands of years rather than doing busy work involving little technical puzzles. Instead they find dumb “research” niches to fill because STEM gave them an inferiority complex.
Replying to @jennfrey
I'm convinced that the R1 model will always disfavor the humanities and liberal learning and that we need to be very savvy and strategic in how we understand ourselves and our place within that model. Very few humanists agree with me, I've found.

While all of us who are fortunate enough to be a part of the modern day literary renaissance owe @DanaGioiaPoet a debt of gratitude, @WisebloodBooks debt is both material and emotional. His relentless efforts have helped Wiseblood to not only grow, but to become one of the essential and foundational organizations of the contemporary literary revival. His faith in our mission has invigorated, and re-invigorated, us over the years, inspiring us to continue this work even when things seemed (and in fact were) too daunting and demanding. substack.com/home/post/p-221…
