My daily driver right now is a 2020 27-inch iMac with an i9, running Omarchy, while I get the M4 and M4 Pro Macs up to speed. Just found out its GPU, a Radeon Pro 5300, is stuck at 300 MHz. It's rated for 1650. Running graphics-intensive software it sat at 97% busy and never went above 300. No power setting could move it. My working theory, to be confirmed tonight: the GPU's firmware starts with a 300 MHz cap that macOS raises after boot, and Linux never raises it. We wrote a small driver patch that should lift that cap to the card's own range, only on the affected iMac and Mac Pro boards. Testing it on my iMac tonight. If it works, it goes as a PR to t2linux/linux-t2-patches. That repo feeds the linux-t2 kernel Omarchy installs on T2 Intel Macs, so once it's merged a normal omarchy update brings it to everyone. #OmarchyMac #OmarchyLinux

Love it. I've revived a 2011 iMac 27inch and its surprisingly useful for anything that doesn't require a ton of CPU (like compiling software). Its become the family computer again.

So the gpu is now fully clocked. The maintainer. Theres actually two ways to do it. I have the full mhz speed now. Now she’s humming on Omarchy.
