Why does it feel like most pro players STILL don’t realize that Esports is entertainment?
Promote your events, create openings for storylines to be made, sell your sponsor/partner products & MAKE CONTENT. The “focus only on competing” mentality is so flawed. We’re not there yet.
Awesome tweet, we considered getting into Rocket League this year, a mixture of egregiously high salaries and minimal representation at LAN is what steered us off. Dealing with 1-2 agencies, spoke with 3 different options of teams, salaries ranging from 10.5k-15k (I have met very few people in my long tenure of professional gaming that can pay-off a 15k a month salary in brand-ability and partners lol) a month. None of the proposed teams made a single LAN. It's tough, Rocket League is one of the most accessible games for all audiences, I'd love for more organizations to be able to support it without having to spend 400k a year in team costs+org overhead, when the reality is that very few orgs find partners to help with that cost, and the in-game rev share is only helping marginally, to again, a very very select few organizations. Definitely good to see Resolves perspective and kind of confirms my own conviction of not wanting anything to do with Epic/RLCS until some of these things are fixed.
