🏟️ Grays Athletic have spent 16 years searching for a home of their own.
Their next chapter involves an abandoned Essex ground, a car-dealership development and a fanbase that’s refused to give up.
This is non-league football. 👇
The potential answer is Ship Lane, the former home of Thurrock FC.
It has stood unused since Thurrock folded in 2018, and Grays recently secured a route to take it over as part of a wider site redevelopment.
But the return hasn’t been simple: planning changes, legal work and the cost of restoring a derelict ground have all taken time.
Grays hope to move in soon - watch me explore the Ship Lane site alongside 3 other 'lost' football stadiums here:

🏟️ I get inside the ground to see just how far it has taken the club in 5 years.
🪧 One of the stadium's biggest assets may be in the name.
✍️ Gtech, the British lifestyle and tech brand, signed what may be the club's most lucrative sponsorship deal ever, contributing to a yearly commercial revenue profile of £19m+.
🏟️Old Wembley was demolished. The Twin Towers disappeared. But bits of England’s most famous football stadium are still hiding in ordinary London parks.
I went looking for them. Here’s what I found. 👇
🏰There are still traces of the old stadium tucked away around Wembley, including the surviving base of a flagpole.
⚽️It’s a reminder that football history doesn’t always live behind turnstiles. Sometimes, you have to go looking for it.
Want to see the hunt for yourself? I visited the places where old Wembley’s remains can still be found, uncovering the story of a ground that shaped English football.
