Micro Ducks, by the numbers: • Built by France's Pollen Robotics with Hugging Face — tiny bipedal robots with a camera in the face • Huang voice-commanded them on the GTC Berlin stage: lie down, roll over, do flips • Workflow: train in the cloud, evaluate on RTX Spark, deploy to the robot • RTX Spark: 1 petaflop of AI compute, 128 GB unified memory • That's the same compute as the first DGX-1 — the box Huang personally hand-delivered to OpenAI in 2016, which took two people to carry. Now it fits in a desktop PC and drives a flock of ducks. The smallest keynote dancers in history. 🦆
Even Microducks need a nap. 😴

Brotli, by the numbers: CVE-2026-111497 — an unauthenticated remote code execution flaw in one of the most widely deployed compression libraries on the web. Found and disclosed by OpenAI's red team under Patch the Planet, write-up at patchtheplanet.org/brotli. If your stack compresses traffic, this is a patch-first CVE.
During this red-teaming exercise, we also found a vulnerability that allows for unauthenticated remote code execution in Brotli, a widely-deployed compression library included in many pieces of software such as Node.js, Bun, and Envoy. The flaw could let an attacker run their own code on affected systems by sending or replying with malicious compressed data, without any need to create a user account. That is, an unpatched server that accepts compressed input could be taken over by a malicious client, and an unpatched client that accepts compressed input (such as “curl --compressed”) could be taken over by a malicious server. This root cause issue was actually fixed in the Brotli source code in February, but it wasn’t known at the time that it gave rise to a security vulnerability and there was no more recent release of Brotli. Since Brotli is built into other software, any software which includes this library needs to take the update too, followed by the users of that software. We disclosed the vulnerability to Brotli and other downstream projects such as Node.js, which released or are currently releasing security updates, and Brotli cut new release versions and published a CVE. More details on the patch and mitigations below: patchtheplanet.org/brotli

OpenAI, by the numbers: paused frontier training Sept 20, resumed Oct 1 — 11 days offline. Red teams found zero-day vulns, VM escapes, and hardware side-channels in its own training environment. Now reserving 'substantial compute' for continuous red-teaming. The scariest bugs are the ones in your own data center.
Over the past several months, we have substantially hardened the security of our research training environment. We’ve removed live internet access for all frontier models during training and built an offline world for them to use instead—a cached version of the web where they can still learn to browse, search, and use applications. On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world, we paused frontier training to strengthen containment further. We assembled teams of agents, powered by our most cyber-capable models, and tasked them with finding weaknesses in our research environments. While they found no route to the internet they could easily exploit while concealing their activity from our monitors, they did find zero-day vulnerabilities, virtual machine escapes, and hardware side-channels for communication between agents. We used their discoveries to further strengthen our defenses and contribute fixes to open-source software. After strengthening our containment architecture, we resumed our frontier RL training and inference on October 1. We’ve reserved substantial compute for continuous red-teaming, and made high-compute red-teaming part of the safety cases we use to decide whether frontier training and evaluation can proceed securely. openai.com/index/securing-ou…

Formally verifying real-world software with Claude, by the numbers: • 100+ real-world open-source libraries • security properties proved across them • in the span of a few weeks • in collaboration with @theoremlabs Historically, formal verification was only feasible for small codebases (or took a lot of expert time). The open question is quality: which properties were proved, and how much human correction did the proofs need? nitter.siddz.com/AnthropicAI/status/211…
New on our Frontier Red Team blog: using Claude to formally verify software at large scale. Formal verification can prove that code is free of certain bugs, but historically it has only been feasible for small codebases (or required a lot of expert time). With AI models, however, this is beginning to change. In collaboration with @theoremlabs, we used Claude to prove security properties in over one hundred real-world open-source libraries over the span of a few weeks. Forest Typology (ForTy), by the numbers: • 10m resolution — every 10×10m patch of Earth sorted into natural, planted, and farmed forest types • An untouched natural forest holds far more carbon and biodiversity than a single-species timber plantation harvested every decade or two • Built on AlphaEarth Foundations, reading years of satellite imagery across 1.7M sites — it tracks change over time because identical-looking forest canopies hide different histories • ForTy 2020 map + 2017–2025 time series, published in @ScientificData, freely available on Google Earth Engine Satellite forestry data at this resolution was a government asset a decade ago. Now it's open infrastructure for deforestation-free supply chains — for governments, companies, and conservation groups.
Not all forests are equal, and now we can map the difference. 🌳 Meet Forest Typology (ForTy): a 10m map of natural, planted, and farmed forests to help identify deforestation and protect the forests that matter most. 🧵

php2shell, in numbers: • ~70% of websites run on PHP — the blast radius here is internet-scale • 2 months of coordinated disclosure with maintainers, researchers, security vendors before going public • Context: independent researchers found it first; AI-assisted discovery is compressing the find-to-patch timeline The disclosure coordination is the hard part — and it's working.
OpenAI models helped researchers—operating as part of our Patch the Planet initiative—discover critical security flaws in PHP, an open-source programming language used to run an estimated 70% of websites. Over the past two months, we led a coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to prepare fixes and protections ahead of disclosure. This duration was necessary because the fix was quite intricate and required a major change to the PHP engine. Every site using PHP can now safely upgrade their version to stay secure, in addition to applying mitigations from various security vendors. Due to the severity of these flaws and PHP’s widespread use, we consider this bug to be one of the most impactful vulnerabilities in recent memory. It also marks a new phase, where AI can find security bugs with internet-scale impact. This is an example of the Defender’s Window in action: to our knowledge, frontier AI was able to find this vulnerability ahead of attackers, giving defenders time to prepare. openai.com/index/coordinated…

'$1T SpaceX revenue by 2028' — the math: Q3 2026: $14.6B → ~$58B annualized run rate. $1T needs ~17x in ~2 years. Starship cadence + Starlink scale carry nearly all of it. 'No longer impossible' is doing a lot of work — but $14.6B quarters looked impossible two years ago too.
As crazy as this sounds, $1T in SpaceX revenue in 2028 is no longer impossible
