Last year, we celebrated International Girls in ICT Day by giving young girls the opportunity to experience the world of technology beyond the classroom. From tech industry tours to an interactive reading session from our Tech Girls Squad Advocacy Book, the girls had the opportunity to learn more about careers in technology, ask questions, and meet women who are building careers across the industry. Thanks to our amazing partners, UK Government in Nigeria, FCDO, American Tower Corporation, and our Women Techsters participants who were present, and to the incredible Humans of Tech4Dev who made this day a success, these future tech leaders got the chance to meet women who are already making waves in ICT, breaking barriers, rewriting the rules, and proving that there’s a place for girls in every corner of the tech world. As we continue our Tech Girls Advocacy activities this October, we’re looking back at moments like this and the different ways we have continued to create opportunities for girls to explore technology. Watch the highlights and hear from the girls as they share their experiences and aspirations. 🎥 @FCDOGovUK @ukngtechhub #TechGirlsSquad #TechGirlsAdvocacyDrive #Tech4Dev #STEMForGirls #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild

For Mokgadi Matli, joining the Women Techsters Fellowship gave her the foundation she needed to map out her own career path in cybersecurity. As a Cybersecurity Fellow based in South Africa, Mokgadi immersed herself in the track and discovered how expansive the cyber world can be. Describing the program as "incredible," she highlights how it pushed her to learn new things. Beyond the rigorous technical training, Mokgadi deeply valued the soft skills curriculum, which equipped her with essential personal development tools, like how to be a better negotiator and how to confidently show up in the workplace. This gave her the confidence to secure a job, and ultimately, to chart her own course as a professional freelancer. Watch Mokgadi share her inspiring journey and what the fellowship experience has meant to her. #WomenTechstersFellowship #Tech4Dev #ImpactStory #WomenInTech #Cybersecurity #DigitalSkills #InternetSocietyFoundation #EconomicProsperity

The girls also received Tech Girls Squad Handbooks to support their continued learning and exploration of technology beyond the advocacy sessions. At Tech4Dev, we believe early exposure matters. When girls understand the opportunities available in technology, they can begin to see themselves as future innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders in the digital space.

The official launch of the Tech Girls Squad Advocacy Book was a special moment for us. We brought together leaders and women in technology for thought-provoking conversations centred on bridging the gender gap in technology, and encouraging more girls to pursue careers in STEM. The event featured a keynote address from the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, alongside discussions and insights on the importance of representation and creating more opportunities for girls in STEM.

Learning Cybersecurity without a laptop came with its challenges, but Kelechi Jennifer was determined to make the most of her learning journey. As part of the Women Techsters Fellowship Class of 2026, Kelechi had to navigate the difficulties of carrying out practical exercises without a laptop. Still, she continued learning with the resources available to her, building her technical knowledge and discovering how information security applies beyond Cybersecurity.

Last year, we officially launched the Tech Girls Squad Advocacy Book, bringing to life an idea we had been working on with one goal in mind, to inspire young girls to see themselves in technology. Through relatable stories and illustrations, Tech Girls Squad Volume 1 sparks curiosity, introduces girls to STEM and the opportunities that exist in technology, and shows them that they too can be innovators, creators, and problem-solvers in the digital age.

As we continue celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child and taking conversations about STEM, AI, digital skills, and future career opportunities to girls in schools, Tech Girls Squad Book is part of that experience, giving the girls a resource they can take with them and continue learning from beyond the advocacy sessions. It is a reminder that inspiring girls to explore technology should not end with one conversation. They need opportunities and resources that can keep their curiosity growing. #TechGirlsSquad #TechGirlsAdvocacyDrive #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild #Tech4Dev #Tech4Dev #GirlsInTech
