I could have sworn we were just last week making fun of women for always needing to see themselves validated in the main characters of their stories.

According to George Lucas, he was evaluated when he was in high school or junior high and he was determined to have an IQ "in the nineties." This is the man outsmarting all of you at every turn. We have documentary evidence that he can't spell the word "lizard" properly. How does that feel?

Very much of Star Trek watches like it was made by people who say things like this.
Patrick Stewart reveals he was so concerned when he went bald at age 19 because he thought his love life was over “Surely, by the 24th century, they will have found a cure for male pattern baldness.” The question: “It doesn’t make any sense. You’ve got a bald actor playing this part.” Gene Roddenberry: “No, by the 24th century, no one will care.” On the comment: “It was one of the nicest things that’s ever been said about men like me.” On shaved heads: “It was nice for a while when I saw all of these shaved heads, but it began to irritate me, frankly.” On people with hair: “When somebody has a magnificent head of hair, that honestly, when I was nineteen, I would have loved to have had. And they shave it all off, and I feel that somehow they’re kind of infringing on my territory.” Losing his hair: “Nineteen, it all happened within the space of a year. It was horrible, it was horrible. I thought everything was over. Especially, you know, one aspect of my life.” “Finished. Nobody’s gonna want… Over.”

actually "the trinity syndrome" is a woman trope where she describes a female character as uniquely capable and overlooked, without realizing she is using terms that apply even more accurately to other male characters in the same movie
the trinity syndrome: a film trope where a female character spends her life mastering her skills, is portrayed as exceptionally capable, only for “the chosen one” to be some guy

The Prequels were successfully re-evaluated because they were artistically coherent, just out of step with the zeitgeist. The Hobbit movies won't be, because they are a mess suffering from a horrifically shortened development cycle. Revisionism isn't a law of the universe.
Want an unpopular opinion? The Hobbit movies are going to age like fine wine and will be viewed favorably like the star wars prequels in 10-20 years.

The Hobbit movies ARE kind of a miracle given the circumstances of their creation but that is a very different thing that history will remember as something other than "unsung masterpiece."

I agree, amigo. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is long overdue for a critical re-evaluation. You can’t understand the postwar Italian or Japanese American experience without it. Like a palimpsest, it also allows us to inspect texts in its own genealogy, such as Speed Racer.

If you actually watch older movies the Prequels should seem very familiar, since they are styled almost exactly like something from the era of The Ten Commandments.
People dismissed Lucas as a hack that couldn't work with actors when he was intentionally going for an older style they weren't familiar with

Millennials living through Y2K, 9/11, a plague, 2 economic recessions, and watching zoomers take credit for rehabbing the Prequel Trilogy before they hit 40
part of the reason genZ has such fondness for the prequels is, unencumbered by the pretentious retardation of chungus millenials and gen X, they correctly assess them as flawless kino, but beyond that, they were the last time big budget movies were good
