Last week, the armed group ADF attacked the Nduye Patrol Substation in the Okapi Wildlife Reserve, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This resulted in the death of eco-guard Jean TANDU KOLIWA. Mr. TANDU KOLIWA was 27 years old, married, and the father of one child. He joined @IccnRdc, DRC’s protected area management authority, in March 2026 and was part of the Anti-Poaching Department of the Okapi Wildlife Reserve. Mr. TANDU KOLIWA fell in the line of duty while engaging the ADF attack. He was trying to preserve the integrity of this World Heritage Site in the face of the negative forces that are casting a shadow over the region. Our sincere condolences to Jean TANDU KOLIWA’s family and his fellow rangers.
