ABDUL EL-SAYED WINS Our movements just defeated hundreds of millions of dollars, MAGA, and pro-genocide groups. We showed that organizing, people power, and solidarity can make history. Abdul El-Sayed will be the next U.S. Senator for Michigan! @AbdulElSayed has remained clear throughout this race: the U.S. must stop funding and arming Israeli genocide and apartheid. And he will go to D.C. to govern on a mandate of fighting for working families and to keep money in our communities - not fund genocide and war abroad. The tides are shifting. Stop Arming Israel. Free Palestine.

Remember when AIPAC spent like 40 million dollars to beat Abdul and we endured like 40 million think pieces about how scary and unelectable he was?

My favorite picture of Ciara Mageean. So rooted to her community and home place. The very best of what it is to be Irish.

The Camogie Association is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Ciara Mageean. Speaking on behalf of the Association, Uachtarán an Chumainn Camógaíochta Brian Molloy said: “On behalf of all our members, I extend our deepest condolences to Ciara’s husband Thomas, parents Christopher and Catherine, and all her family and friends at this very difficult time. “In her all too short life, Ciara touched the hearts of so many. She was a great friend of Camogie, both as a player and a supporter. She referenced that in arguably her finest moment on the track, after she won gold at the 2024 European Championships. "Her self belief and commitment to her craft will always be inspirational, and she will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.”

I can hardly imagine anyone who hasn’t seen this photograph. But it was taken on this day in 2000. I cannot believe the photo is 26 years old now. The boy in the photograph was Fares Odeh. He was just 14 years old. Ten days after this image was captured, Fares went out again to throw stones at Israeli tanks, seeking to avenge the killing of his 17-year-old cousin. An Israeli sniper shot him in the neck, killing him. And there is another chilling detail to this photograph. The photo changed Israeli tank doctrine. In August 2001, The Jerusalem Post quoted an anonymous tank doctrinist saying tank personnel were now instructed to fire upon rock-throwers.

Of all the games I’ve attended and covered over the years, this was one of the most amazing moments. Was right behind TJ Reid’s strike in the New Stand. He told us after that he put his hurl in a bucket of water the night before to give it more weight.

Fine Gael will launch our blueprint for a unified island at our ard-fheis next weekend. It’s important all people feel part of an inclusive & pluralist Ireland 🇮🇪 Well done to @emer_currie1 and @deirdreheenan who have been leading this work, with the support of many others.
Good to catch up with some members of the @finegael Northern Ireland Engagement Group today on the publication of their work on a Unified Island. In June, I asked the Fine Gael Northern Ireland Engagement Group to develop a blueprint for a unified island

🇮🇪 Ireland's Taoiseach (PM) Micheál Martin is launching a new government body to research UNITY with Northern Ireland for the FIRST time. It will examine 3 scenarios: full 32-county unity, NI remaining in the UK, and a united Ireland with a devolved North under Dublin. Martin wants an evidence-based discussion, not partisan pushes that treat a border poll as easy and inevitable. He aims to include unionist voices. Cabinet proposals are expected before Christmas. Wouldn’t it be wild to see a united Ireland again? Source: Reuters / Writer: Jamie

One of the best, if not the best IMO. Who plays inter county Hurling at 39, very few are even doing it at club level.
After 20 seasons, the time has come to say goodbye to the Kilkenny jersey. A privilege, an honour and a journey I will cherish forever. 🖤💛 Thank you to everyone who has been part of it. TJ Reid

I welcome this move… though I would want to see a lot more flesh on the bones of what he is suggesting. This is a long-overdue… but nonetheless welcome… volte-face from An Taoiseach and @fiannafailparty leader. (2/3)

On this Israeli election day, I’d recommend reading this extraordinary @haaretzcom interview with billionaire Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress and once one of Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest confidants. One of Lauder’s most striking conclusions: “I realized at the end of the day that Israel really didn't want peace, but they wanted dominance.” This is coming from someone who helped launch Netanyahu’s political career, introduced him to powerful figures in American politics and media, and secretly negotiated with Hafez al-Assad and Rafik Hariri on his behalf in the late 1990s. In one of the interview’s biggest revelations, Lauder says Netanyahu agreed to a comprehensive peace deal with Syria and Lebanon, including withdrawal from the Golan Heights, but ultimately refused to sign it for political reasons. “He chose politics over peace. He put his political future before the deal.” Now 82, Lauder describes his profound disillusionment with Israel’s direction. After decades of supporting Israeli and Jewish institutions, he has sold his Tel Aviv apartment, given away his Be’er Sheva property, and says he has no intention of returning to Israel. He warns that Netanyahu’s dependence on figures like Ben-Gvir and Smotrich is damaging Israel, alienating diaspora Jews and eroding support in Washington. The interview is also full of fascinating details about Lauder’s role in Netanyahu’s political rise. The two became close friends in the 1980s, when Netanyahu was Israel’s ambassador to the UN, speaking almost daily at times. Lauder says he introduced Netanyahu to speech coach Lilyan Wilder to improve his public speaking and, crucially, to Republican strategist Arthur Finkelstein, who would become instrumental in Netanyahu’s electoral success. When Netanyahu left New York to pursue a political career in Israel, Lauder threw him a farewell party attended by some of the most influential figures in American media and politics, including Rupert Murdoch and the head of the New York Times. Lauder recalls opening doors for Netanyahu and helping him cultivate the relationships that would underpin his rise to power. What makes this interview so revealing is that Lauder is no longtime critic of Israel. He had been a committed Zionist, a Republican power broker, and a man who spent decades financing Jewish institutions, cultivating relationships with Arab leaders, and pursuing diplomatic openings on Israel’s behalf. A fascinating read 👇 haaretz.com/israel-news/elec…
