Proud Californian and relentless optimist who knows how to get things done.

San Francisco, CA
We have two good candidates for Congress in San Francisco, but I'm voting for @Scott_Wiener. He's been a tireless fighter for the city, first as a supervisor and then in the State Senate. He takes climate change and clean energy seriously, and he's focused on bringing down costs for Californians.

In 2014, California hit its 2020 emissions target six years early. Today, China is racing ahead on affordable electric cars and trucks, while the Trump administration has killed EV tax credits, blocked California’s clean car rules, and subsidized fossil fuels. Here is the result: the average new EV in America is over 5x the price of China’s best-selling EV. And the most climate-forward state in the country has fallen behind on its climate goals. At a time when rising costs and climate matter more than ever, we need to make EVs affordable for everyone and get back on track. latimes.com/environment/stor…

Thanks to @TEDCountdown and @speedandscale for having me, and to @AmyAHarder for a great conversation on clean energy. Clean energy now competes, and often wins, on cost and performance. The opportunity ahead is to build a better electricity system for everyone.

Diesel is over $6. Trump's fix is 2.25 million barrels of Russian diesel, or about ~16 hours' worth in the US. Meanwhile, China sold over 400,000 electric freight trucks last year, more than 20x as many as the US. They're building the future. We're renting the past. wsj.com/politics/policy/trum…

We need to protect coastal communities from the risks already here AND keep working to limit how much worse those risks become. Both matter. Thinking of those affected and the first responders working to keep everyone safe.

Boulder, keep fighting. Your community deserves its day in court. If oil companies are proved responsible for climate damage, they should help pay for it. Families and local governments shouldn’t be left footing the bill. @bouldercolorado @bouldercounty @COAttnyGeneral

Oil companies say climate lawsuits could bankrupt their industry. They’re asking the Supreme Court to block them. If paying for the damage they cause threatens their business model, the answer is to change it—not bankrupt nature to protect their profits. nytimes.com/2026/10/04/clima…

At $4.50 gasoline, every American wants fuel efficiency. The Administration apparently missed the last 40 years of more efficient, electric motors. Trump may want us to go back to the 1950’s, but technology marches on. This just makes us look stupid. thehill.com/policy/energy-en…

We know who polluted, and we increasingly know what damage it caused. If fossil fuel companies helped create the damage, they should help pay for it. Thankfully, attribution science is catching up. Polluters will be held accountable in the courts. theatlantic.com/science/2026…

Trump’s vision for “energy dominance” has one big problem: fossil fuels have totally lost in the marketplace. Since 2010, the cost of solar has fallen 89%. Batteries are down 93%. Wind is down 63%. Solar generating capacity has now surpassed coal globally. Battery storage has surpassed pumped hydro. And this isn’t just happening in China or rich countries — clean electric technologies are expanding across South Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa. The money has noticed: global investment in electrotech is now roughly twice investment in fossil fuels. The countries that understand that are building the industries of the future. The United States should be leading that race — not pretending we’re still in the 19th century. nytimes.com/2026/09/23/clima…

The EPA can change a rule. It can’t make fossil fuels competitive or deny climate change. Their actions show them to be utterly removed from reality and unable to conceive of a better future. It’s time to brand them for what they are: ridiculous.
Breaking News: The E.P.A. is said to be planning to announce that the U.S. will no longer limit climate pollution from power plants. nyti.ms/4yyEUfR

Trump is trying to turn America into a petro-state, and it's a strategic disaster. This deal belongs in a different century. The energy transition is unstoppable. America should lead it, but the Trump administration can't accept reality.ft.com/content/2f88581f-4fbc…

Coral reefs are so much more than a pretty tourist destination. They are Earth's largest living structures, and hundreds millions of people depend on them for their livelihoods. This is a global tipping point.nytimes.com/2026/08/31/clima…
