This is a good opportunity to remind all founders and builders that the team at @3miLabs is available to help you make decisions that will stand the test of time
100%. @TomerAshur and team have been sounding the alarm on Poseidon from the beginning and I am glad that Ethereum Foundation has finally made the decision to move away from Poseidon. An important step for Ethereum and migrating to PQ.

BQP=BPP would also be funny. AI scare solidly defeating the Quantum scare.

Apropos the elections in Israel this is just a quick reminder to y'all that alignment in human behavior is not yet a solved problem

Research into applied cryptography is generally spread across universities and not always connected to real systems. @3miLabs, founded by cryptographer @TomerAshur and associated with @KU_Leuven's @CosicBe lab, addresses this by bringing researchers directly into client teams. [...] “Privacy and security are not optional in systems that hold real value. When cryptography fails, it usually fails silently and irreversibly. Only a few hundred researchers worldwide can design these schemes and prove they hold, and 3MI Labs brings a group of them under one roof,” adds Jakob Lingg, partner at Vsquared Ventures.

Issue with x402? You can't pay upfront for a cost you only learn about afterward.

There have been some conversations over the last couple of days on what kind of cryptography is going to be hit first from AI improvements. I don't know enough about lattices and other PKC hardness assumptions, so here's my two cents as a symmetric-key cryptographer with above average experience in hash functions (both traditional and algebraic) >>

So yea the summary is that hash functions have tons of structure and yet I expect them to be mostly fine. In the process of people using AI to try proving me wrong new cool stuff that are not immediately applicable will be found, and these may form the basis for further research. Exciting times ahead. //

p.s., another way to explain my view is that I believe whatever progress will be made by AI can be fixed by adding a small number of rounds. The fundamentals are going to hold.

🧵 We updated ePrint 2026/1692 with new results on Poseidon: eprint.iacr.org/2026/1692 The paper introduces a new approach to round skipping which we denote (k+1)-wise collapsing and which enables round skipping in arbitrary CICO-k problems beyond CICO-1 and CICO-2. 1/6
tl;dr: we present an interpolation attack on 28 out of 31 rounds of Poseidon in practical time via a novel technique for partial round skipping; see ia.cr/2026/1692. 🧵⬇

This reminds me of a quip I heard during my philosophy degree: pre-Kantian philosophers had it easier than post-Kantian ones in that they didn't need to read and reason about Kant

I'm really sorry for all my friends in maths who are going to get hurt by those announcements... Not only the tenured prof (who well are still going to be ok), but all the junior working for tenure, their PhD,.. whose work is likely to never get the audience they deserved...

Our paper got desk rejected from Eurocrypt for violation of margin rules. We didn't notice that simply loading the geometry package without any extra parameters silently overwrites the defaults of the llncs class. >>

Restoring the defaults, we were still well within the page limit so it's not like we had anything to gain from this. I can understand the practical necessity of standardized submission formats and page limits and can appreciate that chairing EC is a lot of work. Also the growth in submission numbers is definitely causing an additional challenge to manage what is already a taxing community service. >>

I can be sympathetic to all of that and still think that a blanket desk rejection for a potential scientific contribution for an accidental, minor, fixable violation is not the way to go. Not looking to fight anyone on this or cause trouble, I just hope this doesn't become the standard going forward.
