I have travelled far and wide in Kenya, never have I experienced the kind of hostility I have experienced in Magadi on my way to
@kweniaecolodge/
@KweniaRange today. What’s up with the Maasai in that area?
A group of friends and I decided to go shoot our shots at Kwenia ranch, however, about 4kms after exiting the Nairobi magadi road and 9kms to the range, we came across a group of Maasai youths who had blocked the road with acacia shrubs. They said that for us to pass we must call the area chief or talk to
@KweniaRange guys to come for us.
After almost an hour, tension was rising and by then, the group had grown to about 30 men who popped from every direction. We were forced to turn back and abandon the days plans.
One peculiar thing however, is even after turning back and going up to the tarmac road leading to Magadi. The group followed us, threatening that we should leave that area. By then there were two other vehicles that had been turned back as well. At the junction they had even brought down the Kwenia ranch sign post.
I can imagine what the guys at Kwenia go through, you invest in an area, but your patrons get turned away and are prevented from reaching your premises. In terms of the business lost today, I estimate quite an amount. This is because in total, we’re about 25 people.
