“Actual” Codex on a stock Game Boy Color, using infrared light!
• Rebuilt the Codex CLI interface as a custom GBC ROM
• Loaded the ROM through an EZ-FLASH Jr + microSD
• Created an on-screen keyboard for composing prompts
• Transmitted prompts directly through the GBC’s built-in infrared port
• Used an
@M5Stack AtomS3-Lite + Mini IR Emitter/Receiver to decode the optical signal
• Forwarded prompts over USB serial to a Python bridge running the real Codex CLI on my Mac
• Condensed and encoded the responses, then beamed them back to the GBC over IR
• Rendered the returned answers inside the rebuilt Codex CLI interface
