Daily Ukraine map thread for Tuesday 20th October 2026
We're back in action after yesterday's technical glitch. Huzzah for zero funding. It's a miracle we're still able to operate.
Russian naval infantry infiltrations continue to appear across Dobropillya. The evidence suggests they are slipping through Ukrainian interception efforts, both on the approach and once inside the settlement. Unmanned Systems may be claiming to be inflicting heavy casualties, but Russia appears to have more men to throw into the fight than Ukraine has drone operators or bodies on the ground available to stop them.
We've marked the area west of Bilytske red. Ukraine may still hold positions there, but we deal in evidence, not wishful thinking. Until we can prove otherwise, it will stay red
Meanwhile, Russian long-range strikes continue to hammer Ukraine, hitting civilian and industrial targets alike, including the park attack we reported yesterday. Today, strikes on a substation have reportedly knocked out Kyiv's metro and public transport.
Herein lies the greater failure. Whether the US or Europe supplies more interceptors or not, they will not solve the underlying problem. Interceptors can destroy missiles but they cannot destroy the factories, supply chains and production facilities that replace them.
Ukraine is being battered by a war machine that Russia has spent years building and expanding. The West has had years to act decisively against that machine and has failed to do so. It continues to fail.
We cannot expect Ukraine to win a war of industrial attrition while allowing Russia's war industries to operate at scale and without ramping up by an order of magnitude in Europe. More interceptors may buy time. Only action against the production chains can change the long term equation.
