Representation of persons with disabilities in decision-making spaces, including county assemblies, is a constitutional right. Yet, this commitment remains largely unfulfilled. Together with @IEBC, @NGECKenya and other stakeholders , we engaged @NAssemblyKE .@NACommitteeKE Justice and Legal Affairs Committee to make submissions on the County Governments Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024, advocating for meaningful and inclusive representation of persons with disabilities in county governance. @UraiaTrust #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveGovernance

It took time to get here. To some, it cost them time, to some, it cost them freedom and to others, it cost them their love. But all is not lost. We now enjoy the fruits of their sacrifices, we learn from their fight for freedom, fight for recognition and meaningful participation. On #MashujaaDay2026 we honour and celebrate all the #DisabilityAdvocates. The disability movement in Kenya is what it is today because of your wise choices. May we carry the work forward so that those coming after us have more room to choose, to participate and to challenge the systems.

Aspirants with disabilities have the ambition, experience and right to participate in shaping Kenya’s leadership. Yet, the journey into political leadership often comes with unique barriers, from inaccessible campaign environments to limited resources and exclusion from political networks. Through our convening of aspirants with disabilities , we created space for dialogue, shared experiences and reflection on navigating political party structures, campaign challenges and opportunities for meaningful participation. As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election, creating an enabling environment for aspirants with disabilities to compete, lead and be represented is essential to building an inclusive democracy. Inclusive elections begin with equal opportunities to lead. @UraiaTrust @CMDKenya @Ncpwds @IEBCKenya @ORPPKenya #InclusiveElections #DisabilityInclusion #PoliticalParticipation

Effective advocacy requires a clear strategy, shared priorities and coordinated action. 👇Through the Social Protection Actors Forum (#SPAF), stakeholders came together to deliberate on the Social Protection Engagement Strategy, exploring key advocacy priorities, opportunities for collaboration, and approaches to addressing barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from accessing social protection programmes and services. The goal is to strengthen collective efforts towards a more inclusive, accessible and responsive social protection system in Kenya—one that upholds the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. @NSPS_Ke @SP_Kenya @DSD_Kenya @Ncpwds @KenyaGovernors @NAssemblyKE @UraiaTrust

Identify dedicated resources and measurable targets for entrepreneurs with disabilities. 2. Expand access to credit guarantees and affirmative-action financing. 3. Track disability inclusion in enterprise support, market access and economic empowerment programmes. @KeTreasury @KenyaGovernors @StateHouseKenya @bajeti_hub @NAssemblyKE Economic inclusion must translate into accessible financing, supported enterprises and real opportunities for persons with disabilities. #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveEconomy

On Day 1 of the FY 2027/28 National Sector Budget Hearings, UDPK and OPDs submitted our memorandum on Energy, Infrastructure & ICT. The sector faces a KSh 472.7bn funding gap. As infrastructure and digital investments are prioritised, accessibility must be costed and built into the projects that proceed. Our asks: 1.Budget for universal design and accessibility in publicly funded infrastructure and transport. 2. Fund accessible government digital platforms and ICT services. 3. Include measurable accessibility indicators in project appraisal, implementation and reporting. Infrastructure investment must expand access—not create new barriers for persons with disabilities. @KenyaGovernors @StateHouseKenya @TransportKE @NAssemblyKE @MoICTKenya @bajeti_hub #DisabilityInclusion #AccessibleInfrastructure

Day 1 of the FY 2027/28 National Sector Budget Hearings: UDPK and OPDs submitted our Health Sector memorandum. The sector faces a KSh 177.79bn funding gap. Yet Disability Medical Assessment Guidelines reached only 7 counties in FY 2025/26, while the FY 2027/28 target is 21 counties. Our asks: 1. Ring-fence adequate funding to expand disability medical assessments and rehabilitation services. 2. Strengthen access to assistive technology and low-vision services. 3. Identify and track disability-specific allocations and targets, including access to healthcare under SHA. Disability inclusion must be visible in the budget and measurable in service delivery. @MOH_Kenya @KeTreasury @KenyaGovernors @StateHouseKenya @bajeti_hub #DisabilityResposiveBudgeting

This Mazingira day, you don't have to plant a tree. You can water one, care for a plant or make sure your environment is clean. It's the small acts that build inclusive environments. Happy #MazingiraDay.

Kenya’s commitment to the rule of law, equity and fair representation must translate into action. The constitutional requirement for at least 5% representation of persons with disabilities in appointive and elective bodies must be realized. We call on the National and County Governments, political parties and relevant institutions to fulfil these obligations, open leadership spaces and ensure meaningful representation of persons with disabilities in Parliament and County Assemblies. Join the call for accountability. Representation is a right ! Watch and share: piped.video/Z8Yh8JTDwK4 and piped.video/AykzH5o0oCg @UraiaTrust @elogkenya @CMDKenya @NGECKenya @IEBCKenya @ORPPKenya

As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election, young persons with disabilities must have a seat at the table , not just as voters, but as leaders, aspirants, and decision-makers. We brought together young persons with disabilities and political party youth leaders to strengthen dialogue, build alliances, and explore how youth spaces can become more inclusive. By championing one another’s participation, young people can help shape political parties and electoral processes where everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute, lead, and influence decisions. Inclusive youth spaces are essential for inclusive democracy! @CMDKenya @UraiaTrust @elogkenya @ORPPKenya @IEBCKenya #GE2027 #InclusiveElections #YouthLeadership #DisabilityInclusion
