🧵 Thread 1/4 Today, we paused at our metaphorical Chautari to reflect on a remarkable journey. @UNDPNepal proudly celebrated 60 years of steadfast partnership with the Government and the people of Nepal, honoring six decades of shared progress and resilience. We were privileged to be joined by the Hon’ble Minister of Finance (@mofnepal), Dr. @SwarnimWagle, who shared a deeply personal connection as a @UNDP alumnus, having contributed to the Nepal Human Development Report in the 1990s and the Global Human Development Report in 2012. In his keynote address, Hon’ble Minister Dr. Wagle highlighted UNDP’s critical role in seeding vital investments and delivering on both global and regional public goods. He commended our ongoing engagement in climate action and democratic governance, encouraging us to build on these foundations to foster even stronger cross-border collaboration.

No kites in Nepal’s skies this Dashain For many families across Nepal, Dashain is a time of marigolds in bloom, clear skies, kites in the air, and homes filled with family. But in parts of Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Dhading, this Dashain feels very different. As Nepal celebrates Dashain, we remember those facing the long road to recovery and the need to rebuild not just homes, but lives, livelihoods, safety, and hope. As #COP17Armenia begins under the theme “Taking Action for Nature,” Nepal calls for stronger international cooperation to turn global biodiversity commitments into tangible results. In her message to the global community, the Hon’ble Minister Gita Chaudhary, Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment underscores that no country can succeed in biodiversity conservation alone. Building a future where people and nature thrive together requires sharing knowledge, technology, financial resources and good practices across countries. As Nepal advances its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2026–2030, collective action, inclusive partnerships and adequate resources are essential to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. May #COP17 renew global solidarity and accelerate action for nature, people and future generations. @MOFENepal | @theGEF | @UNBiodiversity | @COP17_Arm2026 |

Sometimes, recovery can be as simple as a tailor opening his shop again, earning a living and being able to keep going. As a UN Volunteer with @UNDP’s Jajarkot Earthquake Recovery Project, Chahana Shrivastav saw first-hand that recovery starts with listening to people and understanding what they need to rebuild their lives. She now supports the government-led Early Recovery Cluster, co-led by UNDP, helping translate recovery needs from affected communities into national planning, coordinate priorities and identify gaps requiring longer-term support. From the ground in Jajarkot to recovery efforts after the floods, her journey reflects the commitment of @UNVolunteers and @UNDP to making recovery work for people. 👇Read more: unvolunteers.exposure.co/reb…

Schools swept away, vehicles buried under debris and public infrastructure severely damaged. The recent floods have left communities facing enormous challenges as they begin to recover. On the ground in one of the affected municipalities, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative @JulienPRChev highlights the scale of destruction and the urgent need for large-scale debris clearance to restore access to essential services and markets. @UNDP has been supporting response and recovery efforts since day one. As co-lead of the Early Recovery Cluster, we are working under the leadership of the Government of Nepal, alongside partners, to coordinate recovery efforts and support affected communities in rebuilding their lives. @KyokoYokosuka | @kanniwignaraja | @shokonoda | @UNDP | @UNDPasiapac | @UNDPCrisis |

Women farmers in Jumla are bringing indigenous crops back into production, with better access to seeds, training and markets helping turn traditional crops into new income opportunities. From red Marsi rice and Jumli beans to Chino and Kaguno millet, these indigenous crops have long been part of local diets. But limited markets and low prices discouraged farmers from growing them. Through the RERAS project, farmers are receiving improved seeds, technical training and support from cooperatives to increase production and connect their crops to buyers. In 2025/26, one cooperative in Jumla sold 14 tonnes of indigenous crop seeds, reaching farmers beyond the district. Jointly funded by the @NorwayinNepal, @finlandinnepal, and @UNDP, RERAS is supporting farmers to preserve indigenous crops while improving food security and creating new income opportunities. #RERAS #FoodSecurity #IndigenousCrops

Twice the price for better apples. 🍎 For Channarupa Budha, a farmer in Jumla, #Nepal, better farming practices have brought more than a bigger harvest. With irrigation, agricultural training and technical support through the RERAS project, her apple harvest increased from 500 kg to 1,200 kg in one year. She also sold her apples for NPR 80 per kg, twice the NPR 40 she received the previous year. Her annual income from farming apples, beans and vegetables has increased from around NPR 150,000 to NPR 350,000. She also leads a 31-member farmers' group, helping her support her family and lead a 31-member farmers' group. Supported by @UNDP, the @NorwayinNepal and @finlandinnepal, RERAS is helping farmers in Jumla improve agricultural production and connect their products to markets. #UNDP #Nepal #RERAS #WomenInAgriculture

As the flood swept through the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli corridor, communities saw their lives upended in a matter of minutes. In Nuwakot, the immediate emergency has passed, but are now facing a crisis: finding safe shelter, clearing tons of debris, and rebuilding lost livelihoods. @UNDP’s recovery efforts focus on restoring economic stability, assisting with safer housing and resettlement, and ensuring those who lost their livelihoods have the immediate financial support needed to start over. 👉Read the full story on how @UNDPNepal is helping communities rebuild: go.undp.org/Flood-Recovery

Nepal’s Parliament marks a major digital milestone Every day, the Federal Parliament of Nepal generates crucial decisions, bills, and deliberations that shape public life. Historically, tracing this business meant navigating separate paper records, video archives, and disjointed systems. To bridge this gap, the Federal Parliament of Nepal in collaboration with UNDP's Parliament Support Project (PSP), supported by Norway, has launched the trial phase of the Digital Parliament Platform (digital.parliament.gov.np/). Jointly inaugurated by Speaker Rt. Hon. @dolprasadaryal, National Assembly Chair Rt. Hon. Narayan Prasad Dahal, and Hon’ble @sobita465, Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs this platform is designed to make democratic processes more accessible, searchable, and transparent for every citizen. Now, citizens can easily track bills, MP attendance, and committee decisions in one unified portal. As Rt. Hon. Speaker Aryal shared, this is about keeping pace with time and preserving our democratic history. 👉Read more: gorkhapatraonline.com/news/2…
