In the
#Philippines’ Marawi City, 'Ground Zero' is a powerful reminder of the lives, livelihoods, homes and heritage that were lost or affected by the 2017 Marawi Siege. But it’s also a testament to the extraordinary determination of the affected people.
It was incredibly moving to visit – alongside the
@EUAmbPH Massimo Santoro and representatives of civil society – the most affected area of the 2017 siege, to reflect on the devastation the tragic event caused, but also on the progress that’s been made since, towards helping people recover and rebuild their lives.
Together with communities and our partners,
@UNOPS is deeply committed to supporting peacebuilding, sustainable recovery, and post-conflict rehabilitation efforts.
As recovery continues, locally-owned actions, sustainable infrastructure, and stronger institutions are helping to rebuild trust and lay the foundations for a more peaceful and prosperous future for people in Marawi and broadly in Bangsamoro.
