We had nothing left in South Africa. Not two pennies to rub together.
As a husband and father, I had almost given up. After we sold everything, there was nothing left I could do. Jobs were as scarce as snowflakes in summer, and the color of my skin was the only reason that mattered.
Then, the very next day, as God is my witness, we got the tickets. Everything flipped 180 degrees. Hope poured in. A light appeared at the end of an extremely dark tunnel.
When we arrived in the USA, the unknown felt like a whole new mountain. But it didn’t take long to see the truth: life was going to be better here. Every person we met treated us with dignity. Doors kept opening. Things kept falling into place. And with God walking right beside us, what started as survival quickly became a miracle.
I’ve got a fire in my belly now. America still has so much left to offer, and I’ve barely scratched the surface. This is the land where a man can rebuild what was taken from him not by handouts, but by work, grit, and the freedom to keep swinging.
We came here with empty hands and a broken past. We’ll leave our mark with strong backs, grateful hearts, and children who will grow up free. From the ashes of the old life, we’re building something new under the stars and stripes.
The tunnel is behind us. The future is wide open. And by the grace of God and the blessing of this great nation, the best is still ahead.
God bless America. We’re not just here.
we’re home.
