Did you know that data from the National Museum Survey is available through the NMS Data Portal on our website?
This interactive tool allows museums to explore results by region, discipline, and institution size, benchmark against peers, identify emerging trends, support strategic planning, and demonstrate impact to funders and stakeholders.
The value of this resource depends on broad participation from museums across the country. By participating in the 2026 National Museum Survey, museums help build a stronger, more representative dataset that benefits the entire field.
If your institution has not received an invitation, please contact NMS@IMLS.gov.

Today, we recognize America’s past and look ahead to its continued promise and future.

The 2026 National Museum Survey has launched!
If your museum has received an invitation, please participate and help ensure museums of every size, discipline, and region are represented. Strong participation helps create a more complete picture of the museum field and supports better data for planning, advocacy, funding, and decision-making.
If your institution has not received an invitation, please contact NMS@IMLS.gov.

September 11, 2026 marks the somber 25th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attack in history - killing 2,977 innocent victims. Let us always remember the innocent lives lost in this attack on freedom, and honor those New York City Police and Fire Department heroes who courageously ran into danger, many to never return to their families.
