The opening scene of the film 'Working Girl' is considered iconic.
It shows women leaving behind the home with the dream of making it big in the corporate world.
A vision many then followed breaking with tradition.
Yet 'Working Girl' is also a slur for a prostitute.
Who directed it?
Mike Nichols.
Except that isn't his real name.
He was born Igor Mikhail Peschkowsky.
His father was born in Vienna, Austria, to a jewish immigrant family from Russia.
Nichols's father's family had been wealthy and lived in Siberia, leaving after the Russian Revolution, and settling in Germany around 1920.
Nichols's mother's family were jews from Germany.
His maternal grandparents were Gustav Landauer, a leading theorist on anarchism, and author Hedwig Lachmann.
