தாய்நாட்டின் விடுதலைக்காகத் தங்கள் உயிரையும் துச்சமெனக் கருதி, வீரத்துடன் போராடிய விடுதலைப் போராட்ட மாவீரர்களான மருது சகோதரர்களின் நினைவு நாளை முன்னிட்டு, இன்று குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவர் மாளிகையில் அவர்களது திருவுருவப் படத்திற்கு மலரஞ்சலி செலுத்தி வணங்கினேன். 1801-ஆம் ஆண்டு இதே நாளில், இம்மண்ணின் மாண்பையும் தன்மானத்தையும் மகத்தான பாரம்பரியத்தையும் காக்கப் போராடிய சிவகங்கைச் சீமையை ஆண்ட வீரமிகு மருது சகோதரர்கள், ஆங்கிலேயர்களால் தூக்கிலிடப்பட்டனர். அந்நிய ஆட்சிக்கு எதிராக அவர்கள் வெளியிட்ட ‘ஜம்புத்தீவு பிரகடனம்’, விடுதலை வேட்கையையும் மக்களை ஒன்றிணைக்கும் அவர்களின் தொலைநோக்குப் பார்வையையும் பறைசாற்றும் வரலாற்றுச் சான்றாகத் திகழ்கிறது. இந்த மகத்தான தியாக நாளில், விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தில் மட்டுமின்றி, ஆன்மிகப் பணிகளிலும் சிறந்து விளங்கிய மருது சகோதரர்களின் வீரத்தையும் தியாகத்தையும் அர்ப்பணிப்பையும் நினைவுகூர்ந்து போற்றி வணங்குகிறேன்.
