Coach 1st, Trainer 2nd. So what are the points of emphasis to my trainees while I focus on my coaching duties
@EHSTrojanFTBL?
Knowledge of scheme: Are you knowing all 22 positions? Yes, I said 22 positions. Do you know the opposite 11’s scheme. For example, if we are preparing for the 4-2-5, do we know the gap responsibilities for the front 6. Do we know what the nickel is responsible for? Do we know the backend coverage? How does your scheme set up for success against that and what is your adjustments to it?
That’s why it drives me crazy to watch QBs do drills and watch their practice footage and see dudes stare at the Center. What are we doing? Scan!!!!!! Including in drills. Scan!!!!! My QBs that play for me and get trained by me will always scan. If they don’t, I will hammer you on it.
So again, learning in the classroom is one thing. But applying it in training and practice and the games is another. Scan!!!! Apply the knowledge of the defense with your eyes. They are your friend.
Go break the scoreboard!
