So... the couple executed in Saudi Arabia got caught because some pervert filmed them, tried to blackmail the women into sex with HIM, and released the footage leading to her and her lover's execution when she refused. And I'm supposed to be LESS horrified after this revelation?
For those of you who are still being mislead by the fake news of the execution in Saudi. Here is what really happened. Now judge it yourself. Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter, two Bangladeshi nationals employed as cleaning workers for the Bin Laden Group in Mecca, became romantically involved while commuting to work. Nazrul lived in a residential villa in Hayyal Iskan, while Sithi resided in Batha Kuraysh. In May 2023, the two engaged in illicit relations in a secluded stairwell room between Gates 85 and 87 of Masjidul Haram. Nazrul had asked an Indian acquaintance to stand guard downstairs, but the friend secretly recorded the encounter on video. Later, when the Indian national attempted to make advances toward Sithi and was rejected, he leaked the video online. The video quickly went viral, prompting immediate intervention by Saudi authorities, who successfully apprehended all three individuals. The Indian national received a 20-year prison sentence for recording and distributing the footage. Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter were detained immediately following their arrest in May 2023. Nazrul had originally arrived in Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh between November 10 and 13, 2022. Following his arrest in May 2023, he remained incarcerated throughout a lengthy three-and-a-half to four-year judicial process leading up to October 2026. Throughout this period, official protocol dictated that the Saudi government notify the employer (sponsor) rather than foreign government authorities. Various rumors circulated online falsely claiming that the individuals were pilgrims performing Umrah or that the charges stemmed merely from public displays of affection. While the defendants were unmarried, the severity of the legal outcome was not solely based on the act of zina (adultery). Because the offense took place within the sacred precincts of Masjidul Haram, the court determined that they had severely violated the sanctity and honor of Islam's holiest mosque. Consequently, senior judges of the Supreme Court handed down the death penalty as an exemplary punishment aligned with Quranic principles and the Sunnah.
Community note
Saudi confirmed Oct 14 2026 execution of Nazrul Islam and Siti Akhtar for indecent act in Mecca mosque. Official statements lack post's details of video by Indian, gates 85-87 or May 2023. Consulate: Aug 2023 detention. Narrative is unverified viral claim. spa.gov.sa/N2701392 thedailystar.net/news/work-and-…

live-tweeting on samsung findings were fun. i'll let my agents give it a bit more time, but this document is already the most comprehensive breakdown of some key concerns of tizen i've seen run on a live device. it takes like a good while for me just to scroll through it (there's about 44 writeups as of right now on individual functionality). release is probably happening in a few days.

WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.
i own a relatively new (2025) samsung tv. i kept getting weirdly targeted ads. i tried reversing the firmware but it was aes encrypted and no keys unless tear it apart and do uart/jtag magic. zero days it is. root shell on new samsung TVs! discovered PRIVACY HORROR. write up?

What the fuck are ppl talking abt? The GSF and this new Salvadorian contingent is all UN approved and requested by Haiti? Why is everyone acting like Bukele is gonna invade Haiti? Has everyone lost their minds? The Haitian army and police are fighting with the GSF, not against

Fast takeoff is when the models start recursively self-improving steeply The current security crisis is not fast takeoff, it’s the application of capabilities that we had six months ago by malicious humans to problems that the software industry should have fixed six years ago
# Black October For anyone who knows me even somewhat well, it's clear that I am a 99th percentile tech optimist. However, the vibes have shifted for me quite a bit in the last 18 hours, and I feel a moral imperative to share what I'm thinking and feeling with my circles so that everyone can understand, and hopefully take seriously, what's happening right now. I think October 2026 will have many chapters written about it in the history books. You know those scenes in financial movies like Margin Call where someone realizes that they're all fucked, and no one else sees it yet? And that person feels like they're crazy, and then suddenly everyone is pulling an all-nighter in a boardroom and freaking out? Yeah, that's kind of how this is feeling right now in the SF/Bay Area/AI circles. We're 48 hours into what is being called Black October. In the last 2 days there have been several dozen cyber attacks which, in isolation, would each have been the worst to happen in an entire calendar year. Every sector from government to education to big tech and banks is being massively affected, and people are starting to freak out. In a nutshell, what's happened is that frontier AI models have gotten to a point where they are as advanced as the most sophisticated programmers, with one critical difference: they can work 24/7, and you can spin up 10,000 of them with a single command and they'll work together tirelessly until they accomplish their task. The most advanced models today are from companies like Anthropic and OpenAI, whose current best technology is so good that they haven't been able to roll it out to everyone yet because of the national security risks it poses. Meanwhile, the best open source models (where anyone can just download the model weights and do whatever they want with them, uncensored) are slightly behind the frontier but still 90-95% as capable. These models, developed primarily in China, are being used by black hat hackers to wreak havoc on the Western capitalist structure. Presumably, this has been part of China's plan the entire time, and we're seeing its implications fall out in real time. In red-pilled AI circles, we've been sharing and reading papers called things like "Situational Awareness" and "AI 2027" for the last year or so, which at the time felt a bit like near-term speculative fiction. They laid out the case for why Artificial General Intelligence (AI smarter than any human at any knowledge task) and Recursive Self-Improvement (models that are able to use themselves to get better) weren't half-baked future ideas anymore, but instead an inevitable outcome of the linear progress that's happening. These papers would then talk about things like "takeoff scenarios," trying to envision how that moment would come to be and what it would be like when it happened. It would either be a "slow takeoff" that would play out over the course of months and quarters, happening subtly and only obvious to a few. Or, it would be a "fast takeoff" where it would pretty much happen instantly, like a bit flipping from 0 to 1. From everything that I can see and am feeling, we are currently experiencing the fast takeoff scenario. Beyond the crazy security vulnerabilities that have come out recently, there have also been massive breakthroughs in life sciences, fundamental computer science, materials science, and pure mathematics that have all landed in the same time frame. While I still firmly believe that AI will be a net positive for humanity, it's more clear to me than ever that the societal and individual risk is very real, and is playing out NOW. For as much conviction as I have that this is happening, the thing that's caused me to lose sleep is that I don't really know what to do about it, or more importantly, what to tell you, reader, to do about it. So, the best I can do is make a few suggestions that have always been a good idea but are more timely now than ever: Set up 2-factor authentication for everything. I use Duo. Use a password manager across your devices. I use 1Password. Get an identity protection app set up. I use Alta. Move your IoT devices to their own network. Claude helped me do this. And last, but certainly not least, if you've been avoiding leaning into AI, see this as a catalyst to wake up and start using it. Don't just use the chat mode version of ChatGPT/Claude; click that Code/Work button and see how easily you can have AI write code to help you with your job. One of the biggest vulnerabilities was in a massively popular programming language called PHP, and the prompt that set it off was literally, "Find vulnerabilities in php." This is an unprecedented time for humanity, but as we've done with many things before, we will prevail so long as we are kind, loving, and open-minded to the world. Much love.

Here's my political position on the middle east: Do you who the Taliban are? (Of course.) Do you know who rules the Congo? (I don't.) Do you know who Netanyahu is? (Of course.) Do you know who the prime minister of the Czech republic is? (I don't.) I want to not know

The fact that I know anything about the government of any middle east country is an imposition on me that I shouldn't have to deal with. Israel/Palestine? What's your position on Armenia/Azerbaijan? Did you even know there was a position to be had there?

(To make this thread I had to check that the Czech republic actually had a parliamentary system and that the Armenia-Azerbaijan bordet crisis was still ongoing. I didn't check who controls Congo.)

Sure: here's the analysis. AES is a Muslim social democrat who gained power in an intra-coalitional fight because him being a Muslim social democrat put him in a position to be credibly and loudly anti-Israel among people who have made that their primary litmus test. Previously, he cared enough about Middle East issues to put his name on a lengthy op-ed in defense of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, then to sign a petition calling for the president there to purge the media and police. Many Americans viewed the MB option as the lesser of two evils then, a democratically supported group in a country that had lacked such, but often changed their minds when, among other things, the media purge el-Sayed called for very predictably expanded to encompass not just state media aligned with the prior regime, but independent media the new regime opposed. el-Sayed never, to my knowledge, provided any indication he changed the substance of his views or his sympathies in the wake of those changes, and instead provides curt and general disavowals without elaboration, saying things like that he opposes every group that uses violence. I believe he, like almost every Muslim social democrat in the country, feels much more sympathetic to and at the very least conflicted about Islamist groups in the Middle East. He sees them as engaged in a righteous struggle against an oppressive and genocidal nation that has the support of the American foreign policy regime, which he broadly views as evil. As far as I can tell, his attitude towards Muslim leadership in those countries, or militant groups there, is that Israel is the bigger fish to fry, and inasmuch as he disagrees with their policy there is room to sort that out after Israel is handled, whatever "handled" looks like. I think his disavowals-without-elaboration of the Muslim Brotherhood are explained predominantly by him wanting to reach elected office in the United States, where the MB is considered a terrorist organization, rather than a substantive shift from what was clearly a considered position he felt strongly about. Because of his position as a Muslim social democrat, he gets a lot of support from explicitly and unambiguously anti-American leftists, such as Hasan Piker, and from Islamic organizations with views on the middle east that are mainstream among Muslims but which non-Muslim Americans would generally consider radical. People who oppose Israel rationally support him; people who support Israel rationally oppose him. Both his political position and his religion impact why he cares about what he cares about, how he cares about it, and how he will govern. Many Republicans will talk about this in over-the-top and ugly ways; the opposition to that from leftists who have made talking about "Zionists" and non-leftists in over-the-top and ugly ways has zero principle, while liberals are mostly rallying around the Democratic candidate as the lesser of two evils and deploying sincere-but-reflexive allegations of bigotry. All of this combines to make people say a lot of unhelpful and inaccurate things on this topic, one of the most unhelpful and inaccurate being that bigotry is the predominant motivation behind people questioning Abdul el-Sayed about Islamism and trying to make it taboo to press him on positions informed by his religion. nitter.siddz.com/steady_drumbeat/status…
Trace argues that AES's stance on the Muslim Brotherhood can be analyzed and criticized insofar as it pertains to present-day US policy in the Middle East. To which I say: fine, make that analysis, and we'll debate it. So far, no one has. They've just demanded he denounce them. Because they're motivated by Islamophobia, not the US's Middle-East policy.

There's a thing where is becomes more abstract, and thus technically covers more thins, even though it's mostly still used for the one case. "Bodily Autonomy" could be about vaccine mandates, or even the draft.
