HORRIFYING SCENES IN BNEI BRAK: Police Hurl Stun Grenades At Unarmed Peleg Protesters, Beat Them Bloody In Shocking Violence, Dozens Injured [GRAPHIC FOOTAGE]
Violent clashes erupted Thursday afternoon near Bnei Brak as Israeli police used stun grenades and physical force to disperse thousands of Chareidi protesters demonstrating against the arrest of a yeshiva bochur, leaving at least 10 people reportedly injured, several with head wounds.
The demonstration, organized by the Peleg Yerushalmi faction, brought traffic on Highway 4 to a standstill, with authorities closing the major roadway in both directions between the Aluf Sadeh and Em HaMoshavot interchanges.
Disturbing footage circulating from the scene showed injured protesters lying on the pavement, some bleeding heavily, as police attempted to clear the highway.
At least 10 protesters were evacuated to hospitals, including individuals suffering head injuries. Earlier reports from Channel 12 confirmed at least four hospitalizations.
Police deployed stun grenades during the confrontations, with videos showing explosions near groups of demonstrators and officers physically confronting protesters.
The protest was organized following last week’s arrest of yeshiva bochur Alon Smadja, a talmid at Yeshivas Tiferes Shraga in Yerushalayim.
According to Chareidi media reports, Smadja was arrested at his home in the Bayit Vegan neighborhood after military police allegedly contacted him under the pretense that a delivery was waiting outside his building. When he came downstairs, officers arrested him.
The demonstration was held under the direction of HaRav Tzvi Friedman, amid additional concerns within the Peleg Yerushalmi community regarding possible arrests of yeshiva bochurim over military enlistment.
As the protest intensified, police declared the gathering unlawful and ordered demonstrators to clear the roadway.
Officers subsequently began dispersing the crowds, using stun grenades and other crowd-control measures.
United Torah Judaism chairman MK Yaakov Asher issued a sharp condemnation of the police response, saying that although he opposes blocking highways, the images emerging from the demonstration were unacceptable.
Asher specifically pointed to footage showing injured protesters, including a bochur with special needs, lying on the ground covered in blood.
He demanded that Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levy immediately summon the officers involved for disciplinary hearings, accusing them of crossing a red line through excessive violence.
Representatives of Peleg Yerushalmi also condemned the police response, accusing National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir of using law enforcement to retaliate against Chareidim following the election results.
Meanwhile, police presented a different account of the confrontations, accusing demonstrators of refusing repeated orders to disperse and throwing stones at officers.
According to an official police statement, one officer sustained a head injury after being struck by a rock thrown during the disturbances.
Police said an officer at the scene had formally declared the demonstration illegal after attempts at dialogue failed.
Authorities emphasized that while the right to protest is protected, demonstrations cannot endanger public safety or prevent motorists from using major roadways.
Additional traffic disruptions were reported along Jabotinsky Road in Petach Tikvah, with police directing drivers to alternate routes.
