It’s remarkable to think that Takshashila University flourished for nearly a millennium, from the 5th–6th century BCE, during the Mahajanapada period, until its eventual decline following the Hun invasions in the 5th century CE, during the Gupta period.
The Mauryan Empire controlled 1/3 of the world's entire economy, was home to 1/3 of the world's population at the time (an estimated 50 million out of 150 million human), contained the world's largest city of the time Pataliputra.
