Disabled people are FIVE times more likely to get the correct benefits award at appeal stage, than from the DWP's mandatory reconsideration.
Our new research shows that mandatory reconsideration is a barrier to justice. We are calling for it to be replaced completely.

In a new @Z2K_trust blog, I've had a look at what the Timms Review's emerging recommendations could mean for disabled people.
There’s a lot to welcome in the proposals, but the Review's longer-term vision raises some much bigger questions.

The displacement of homeless people is one of the many consequences of our housing crisis. But one that isn't talked about enough.
Very happy to contribute our thoughts and stories to this @LGeraghty23 @BigIssue article.

Westminster City Council has moved 65% of its homeless residents out of the borough.
🟣Our new research finds that families are being uprooted from jobs, schools, healthcare and support networks, while facing mounting travel costs and isolation.

Giving people somewhere safe and warm to stay at the harshest time of year is a good start. But what happens in Spring? Where do rough sleepers go then?
This is when the complexity of our national housing crisis could unravel the Prime Minister’s ambition.
🚨 BREAKING: Andy Burnham has announced £442m to get all rough sleepers off the streets by Christmas
"No-one should have to bed down in a doorway or outside a station"

Young disabled people deserve access to opportunity, not barriers. That's why we've joined with 41 other charities calling on the UK government to work with the sector to create pathways into meaningful employment, education, volunteering and training.

This would, of course, be a nightmare scenario for the millions of people who rely on these benefits, in many cases to support them into work or at work.
🚨 NEW: Reform UK has pledged to scrap PIP and the health element of Universal Credit for working-age adults
Only people with severe disabilities would receive cash payments to save £50bn a year on benefits

Never letting people in power off the hook, especially not in Westminster.

A thank you is powerful when it's given freely. But asking for thanks is really just another way of reminding you who’s in charge. Disabled people and Z2K will never stop fighting discrimination.

The situations described in this story - disabled people who are clearly eligible having their support stopped on reassessment and having to fight tooth & nail to get it back - are the kinds of cases that advisers at @Z2K_trust see time and time again.
But...
The Times has an article about a day at a PIP tribunal court today where they manage to dodge the obvious story - the hell of claiming and having to appeal - and blame mental illness and neurodivergence. Shockingly clear evidence of a campaign against us tbh.
ALT Alt text: Screenshot of a Sunday Times article headlined, “A day in benefits court, where claimants fight to keep their Pip.” The subheading reads: “Stripped of disability payment after a phone assessment, people in need come here to win it back and accuse those with milder conditions of playing the system.” Below is an illustration of a disability benefits tribunal. Seen from behind, a claimant in a pink top sits facing a panel of three tribunal members seated behind a long desk. A walking stick leans against the claimant’s chair. The panel consists of a bald man in a shirt and tie, a woman wearing glasses and a blazer, and another woman in a light blouse, all looking towards the claimant with serious expressions. The caption beneath the illustration reads: “Deciding the future of Pip is one of the thorniest tasks facing Andy Burnham.” The article is by Emily Dugan, Special Correspondent, and dated Saturday 18 July 2026 in The Sunday Times.
