TODAY IS FRIDAY, WHAT ARE YOU EXPECTED TO DO?
The Prophet (ο·Ί) encouraged us to attend the Friday (Jumu'ah) prayer early because of the virtues and immense rewards in doing so.
Anyone who manages to arrive early will be able to perform voluntary prayers (nafilah) and observe whatever Sunnah practices they wish before the Imam mounts the pulpit (mimbar). Doing this helps one uphold the sanctity of the sermon (khutbah). Let us avoid talking and other interactionsβunless strictly necessaryβonce the Imam mounts the pulpit.
Allah says:
"And when the Qur'an is recited, listen to it and pay attention so that you may receive mercy."
Voluntary prayers (nafilah) are not performed while the Imam is delivering the sermon. It is not permissible for a First Aider/marshal (Dan Agaji) or anyone else to carry out any task inside or outside the mosque that causes them or others to speak during the sermon, unless it is a matter of security or safeguarding people's rights.
Seeking assistance/donations for the mosque during the sermon is not allowed. One should sit and listen quietly. Regarding straightening the prayer rows, the Sunnah teaches that when the Imam stands up to begin the prayer, he inspects the rows himself or appoints someone to do so; once properly aligned, the prayer is called.
The Prophet (ο·Ί) said that it is a sign of an Imam's deep understanding of the religion when he keeps the sermon concise and lengthens the prayer on Friday. Let us beware of innovations (bida'ah), as they ruin good deeds and distance a servant from the Messenger of Allah (ο·Ί).
As for you who arrive late, find a spot and sit down. It is not permissible to step over people to reach a spot you have set your eyes on. May Allah help us remember to wear clean, nice clothes according to our means, at the very least, let us ensure we do not smell bad if we cannot obtain perfume.
The Prophet (ο·Ί) desires that we send abundant blessings (salawat) upon him on a day like this:
"O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the family of Muhammad, his companions, the followers, and those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment."
