AI agents can write code and run experiments. But that doesn’t mean they can do meaningful research.
At ODSC AI West 2026, Bhavul Gauri, Staff Research Engineer at Meta, will present “Evaluating AI Research Agents: AIRS-Bench.”
Bhavul works on AI research agents, recursive self-improvement, LLM post-training, and multi-agent systems at FAIR, Meta Superintelligence Labs. He is also first author of AIRS-Bench, an open-source benchmark designed to evaluate AI agents across the machine-learning research lifecycle.
In this session, he’ll unpack how research agents can be evaluated across hypothesis formation, implementation, experimentation, and analysis, while exploring benchmark design, contamination risks, agent environments, and the difference between task completion and real research performance.
