I organized a tech conference in Zurich with 500 people. And I lost over CHF 100,000 on it. 😄
Let me show you what something like this actually costs.
The conference was A3F 2026 at Kaufleuten, with Steve Wozniak as our special guest.
It was a great event.
Amazing people in the room, great energy, and exactly the kind of conference I want to build in Switzerland over the next few years.
But the first year was not profitable. It was an investment.
Roughly, this is what it cost:
- Location, staff and security: around CHF 30,000
- Food and drinks: around CHF 35,000 (People ate and drank a lot. 😄)
- The coffee alone was around CHF 1,800.
- Sound, light and video production: around CHF 35,000
And then comes the biggest cost: Speaker fees.
I’m very lucky that many Swiss founders and entrepreneurs come to A3F for free.
I really appreciate that.
But if you want to bring big international speakers, especially from the US, it gets very expensive very quickly.
Often you are somewhere between USD 100,000 and 250,000 just to get them on stage.
For example, I wanted to bring Shaquille O’Neal to Switzerland one day, because many people don’t know that he was also an early investor in Google.
The fee was $ 750,000 for 20 minutes. Crazy. 😂
I don’t want to build a one-time conference. I want to build the most interesting tech and founder conference in Switzerland over the next few years.
So A3F 2026 was the investment. A3F 2027 will be the next step.
PS: Tickets for the next A3F 2027 event are already live. Link in the comments.
