The alchemy of @BainCapVC for founders is that we blend the connectivity to global industry of @BainCapital with a SF- and NY-based team of builders who are deep in AI. What does it mean to me personally to be here? I'm doing the best work of my life and I have to uplevel my game every single day. Whether it's embedding at @DecagonAI one day a week on comms, renaming and rebranding companies, managing kiss cam crises or conducting our 24th Narrative Workshop with a founder, being part of our Plaform team, intentionally named The Hive, has changed the trajectory of my career. But the people are the best part. I truly work with the world's greatest marketers. @annieclark, @Rachel_Colson, Aleeia, Nour, Kendall... And the world's most thoughtful partners who push and challenge us every day to deliver our best work. "Make Money. Have Fun. Live with Integrity." Important when Bain Capital was founded 42 years ago, and essential today.
Make money. Have fun. Live with integrity. Everything else can change. Fund XI. $1.6B total capital for those who know that it will.

Whop has raised $200M in Series D funding at a $5.1B valuation, backed by @sequoia and @shopify. It really feels like we are barely touching the tip of the iceberg in a market larger than anyone can imagine. We first launched Whop as a better way for us to sell sneaker bots, one of the most niche types of desktop software out there. Total TAM? Probably $20,000 per day. Who cares, tiny market. But, what people discounted is the idea that there were actually 70,000 other markets exactly like that one. Beyond the investment itself, I am especially excited to welcome legendary silicon valley investor @dougleone to our board of directors. Doug and the sequoia team are nothing but a brilliant, resourceful, and principled group of people. My co-founder Cameron and I started building on Shopify when we were 13 years old. Shopify is one of the most impactful all-in-one cloud ecosystems ever created; @tobi has pioneered modern entrepreneurship the way we know it and we are thrilled to have him in our corner. We have a tenet at Whop to be the dumbest in the room and I am very grateful that this has recently become a lot easier. We are focused on markets, scale economies, and progressive media. If that is up your alley, please message me directly. The $200M raised will support our expansion as we build economic infrastructure for the next century, continuing on our mission of delivering everyone an income.

The last 24 hours on the timeline are a nice reminder that you can absolutely crush a launch or announcement without paying some cringe agency to manufacture 5M views on a video. Exceptional comms is still the cheat code. Invest accordingly.

We’re hiring for 3 of the most fun jobs I can imagine @crosbylegal: 1. Head of Brand: craft the look and feel of a brand new type of company. Neither software, nor services but a third type of company blending the two. You think all day every day about one of our most enduring assets.

I *completely* agree with what Jensen Huang just told @FortuneMagazine's @jeremyakahn and @beafreyanolan: if you're working on AI and you're a doomer -- why would you be working on it?! Just stop. Why would you build something you think needs welfare or could kill? fortune.com/2026/10/14/nvidi…

Fun chat w/ the great @saravarnibright who I had the pleasure of getting to know through @BainCapVC when she was at @attentiveHQ. We get into all the things around comms aka narrative / storytelling, including my pet peeves. saravarni.substack.com/p/mor…

The first time I talked to @lennysan, I asked him what the hardest part of his job was. He said it’s not hard to find people who have accomplished impressive things, but it’s very hard to find people who can share what they’ve learned in a way that’s interesting and useful to others. That stuck with me. I’d always thought of communication as a means to an end, something that made me a better product leader. But if one of the best-connected people in tech found the skill of communication this rare, maybe it was worth taking seriously on its own. So I started asking myself what it would take to become a truly great communicator. The path looked clear, and honestly fun: write more often, get good feedback, study great writers. I also suspected that being a great communicator would make me a better product leader, and I wasn’t sure the reverse was true. That question shaped the best year of my professional life, and it eventually led me to Anthropic. In my latest newsletter, I write about that bet, why I now think speaking matters even more than writing, and Derek Thompson’s case for theater classes. 8-10 people are up late right now debating what to do about this, given Meta’s Europe HQ is in Dublin… when all Zuck needs to do is tweet “if I wanted something that dark and complex, I’d chug Sweet Baby Ray’s” and be done with it.

A lot of comms / narrative / storytelling people are order takers. I hear about it from founders. Have an opinion you can back up and suggestions on ways to improve the messaging. Don't whine about a seat at the table if when you have one you use it to say "it depends"

If the bird had a price tag on it, Kelly wins. If not, the store wins. This app is at its best when we can unite to moderate the argument between a twee Brooklyn toy shop and a 2002 American Idol winner, with comparisons to a romcom about a hooker.

You can’t hire someone to have the vision for your company, but you can hire someone to help you articulate it and get it out into the world.

Hard disagree on two points. 1) It’s true that the CEO can’t hire her way out of crafting the story but most founders get too lost in the details. That’s what makes them great founders. There’s only upside in working with someone skilled to articulate it and think of a million creative ways to get it out there. 2) this is the most fun part of the job. Only weak or nervous people refuse to work at the earliest stage of narrative. To me, the founder and the whiteboard = the best part of this gig, where you can have the most impact!
we're already back to "storyteller" discourse, are we? here's the thing: too many tech companies want to hire a "storyteller" to basically craft their 'story' from the ground up and do all the other content stuff, etc but a GOOD creator usually doesn't want to work for a company with no story yet , no compelling narrative. for a startup, having a great story from the jump starts with the CEO. and if the CEO can't conjure up a good, compelling story for THEIR COMPANY, you've got bigger problems that a "storyteller" or a "creator" won't be able to solve

“I can fix him” has claimed another victim
It’s hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that’s just how it is sometimes 🤷🏻‍♀️ I feel happy that I got to show Elon how it feels to be deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness. Given the tumultuous nature of his early life, his often tortured soul, and how hard he fights for humanity I wanted him to feel the deepest and most stable form of love this world can provide. My heart is full knowing I got to do that, and I hope it leaves a lasting good effect. We were always his safe space. A place where all of us were overjoyed to see him and one that was always full of happiness and love, not war, in contrast to his otherwise militant existence (a needed break from the battlefield where he could recharge his heart and soul before heading back out) I loved being that counterbalancing place of safety, sense of calm, and love — and delighted in bringing a smile back to his face when he was down. I will miss him dearly. I’ve loved him more than life itself and he’s taught me 100 lifetimes of knowledge and made my cup overflow with life meaning, so there is a lot of loss, but luckily we created four beautiful little loves of my life ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I am so beyond grateful for our children and they make every single day the best day of my life! I do hope and pray he and I can be great friends and coparents. I’m hurting, but care deeply about E and will always be cheering for his happiness. God speed, Elon, the world is lucky to have you.
