The 6th International Metaproteomics Symposium
Extended deadline for oral presentations until Sunday 24th. Be sure to submit your abstract in time! ims6.sciencesconf.org/
Psst: We had the first snowfall today and the venue is next door to a ski resort. Just saying. ๐โ๏ธ
Deadline for abstract submissions is approaching (22.09)! NFM welcomes all microbiologists as this is a great opportunity to present your science and network with colleagues from Norwegian institutions!
๐ขJoin us at the #NFM annual meeting October 22, 2024 @NMBU. Abstracts and registrations are now open. Dive into the latest research on fundamental and applied #microbiology#infection & gut #microbiome ๐(๐งต1/2)
New paper out on increasing biomethane production from trickle bed reactors (and first paper from my post-doc)๐๐ท ! Thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this paper and for great collaboration! @BioRef_NMBU @NIBIO_no doi.org/10.1016/j.biortech.2โฆ
Carl Kobel has made an awesome snakemake pipeline for analyzing archaeal and bacterial genomes! ๐ฆ ๐งฌ
It's fast, comprehensive, and easy to use and extend, with a nice visual report as output. ๐

We are still looking for #phdย students to join us at @CMR_QUTย and help us decipher core microbial interactions in cows, which is needed to accelerate improvements in sustainable food production and reduce its carbon footprint. Find out more and apply here: qut.edu.au/research/study-wiโฆ
Excited that my first machine learning preprint is out! ๐ค
We trained a simple neural network to predict genome-scale metabolic models from 16S rRNA gene sequences ๐งฌ
This worked surprisingly well, and we were able to classify accurate models for both archaea and bacteria ๐ฆ
As part of my move to @CMR_QUT we are looking for new PhD students to join us and discover microscopic clues that will address global challenges! Please share #RT and of course DM if interested!
Join our team! We are looking for 2 #PhD students to work with @ThePopeLab to study how microbiological, biochemical and genetic processes influence methane production in the cow rumen. Find out more: shorturl.at/isL59
The job ads for two PhD positions and one postdoc position (4 years) in the MMOB group (Rinke lab) @uniinnsbruck are now online!๐

I'm excited to share that I've accepted a position as Professor forย #environmental#microbiology atย @uniinnsbruck inย Austria.
My lab will focus on microbial omics of uncharacterised taxa and on plastic biorecycling.
Will post job ads shortly - for 2x PhD and 1x postdoc

Three weeks ago I finally defended my PhD, and now I'm looking for new opportunities!
If you or someone you know are looking for a new team member and are working with microbiomes, meta-omics or anything in between, let's chat!
Took some time to land after this day - and what a day! Happy and proud, and super grateful for my amazing supervisors, the evaluation committee and co-authors, colleagues and friends that came to support๐ฅณI'm a doctor!!!
A very special day for the group as we celebrate โDRโ @andersen__thea who performed an outstanding defense of her PhD. A huge thank you to the opponents Profโs @sharonhuws, Jana Seifert and @AngelaSchwarm
2nd paper of my PhD is out! What is the role of these big protozoal bugs in the rumen microbiome? Excited for this story to finally come to life and to see where it takes us next ๐ฆ A real team effort that I'm so proud of! Read the thread ๐and paper here nature.com/articles/s41396-0โฆ
Protozoa can be ๐บ50% of the microbial biomass in the rumen and have big influence on digestion and H2 production (leading to methane). BUT they are HARD to study, especially in vivo! @andersen__thea adds her PhD piece to the puzzle in @ISMEJournalnature.com/articles/s41396-0โฆโฆ 1/6
