Thanks to YC for having me and letting me talk about our story
Since the start of the year, @OpenCode (YC W21) — an open source alternative to Claude Code and Codex that works with any model — exploded to 4.6 million weekly active users, 13 million monthly actives, and roughly $40M in annualized revenue. In this episode of The Lightcone, @harjtaggar, @snowmaker, and @sdianahu talk with Jay V (@jayair), OpenCode’s CEO, about what’s driving this wild growth, the Anthropic clampdown that inadvertently fueled it, and the almost 20 year founder journey that led him here. 00:44 — OpenCode’s Explosive Growth 01:16 — 20x Growth, 13M Users, and 7 Trillion Tokens 03:39 — The Anthropic Controversy That Changed Everything 05:43 — Bringing AI Coding Agents to the World 06:39 — When Open Source Models Became Good Enough 08:56 — What Millions of Developers Are Actually Using 13:31 — Why OpenCode Is Huge Outside the US 15:27 — Why Fortune 500 Companies Choose OpenCode 16:36 — The Economics of AI Tokens 20:02 — How Enterprises Are Using Coding Agents 22:58 — AI’s New Unit Economics 24:56 — Why Model Choice Matters 29:55 — The Product Decisions Behind OpenCode 34:21 — A 16-Year Overnight Success 41:16 — Why Jay Never Gave Up

Excited to share that I’ve joined @anomalyco as their Head of Business, the first business hire. I've been watching @thdxr, @fanjiewang, and @jayair build for a while and have always admired how they push the limits of what is possible in the developer world. @opencode has 120K GitHub stars, 5M monthly active developers, and the most insane inbound I've ever seen. The goal is simple: take it from $15M to $100M run rate by the end of the year. Time to get back to work.

Welcome David
Excited to share that I’ve joined @anomalyco as founding designer. I’m thrilled to work with @jayair @thdxr @fanjiewang and @adamdotdev — a team stacked with talent! I’ve always been fascinated by challenges that influence the way people work. Today, AI is reshaping software development at a pace we’ve never seen. From solo developers to global enterprises, the way we write code has shifted dramatically in the past year, and will continue to change in the years ahead. This is an opportunity for me to help shape these experiences for everyone, regardless of frameworks, IDEs, or tools. I want to explore how they’re adopted and how they can have the greatest impact. The team is hard at work on @opencode — the open source AI coding agent for the terminal. With over 23K stars on GitHub, it’s already changing how thousands of developers write code every day. Follow @opencode as we go beyond the terminal and design and build world-class AI developer experiences ✌️

from day one opencode has been designed to be embeddable and composable we're officially launching the opencode sdk today here's an example launching a single instance and running a bunch of tasks in parallel - this is the same sdk the TUI uses so you can do anything it can
