Mind boggling to me that I can make a thing faster and there's always people that ask "but why?" What kind of mentality is that? The pursuit of excellence does not need justification. Also, I find in so many cases, we can't know the impact of an improvement until we do it. For example, one I've talked about before: Ghostty's high IO throughput has enabled terminal program (emulator and TUI) fuzzing at a speed thats incomparably fast to prior solutions. This has resulted in upstream patches to resolve issues in popular projects like btop, tmux, and more. Speed enabled that anecdotally example that lifted the tides of adjacent communities that don't rely on Ghostty technology at all. I didn't predict this. Make things better because they can be better and let the results naturally play out.

Zed keybindings make ⌘+R the toggle switch for markdown edit and preview modes #zed #coding #obsidian . I have the same key binding in Obsidian too.

iterm -> ghostty -> cmux -> zed zed's fast! really liked Cmux, but wanted terminal + editor in the same app. zed's 'terminal threads' are quite good and help emulate the features of cmux. Had to build claude code notifications using hooks.

Instead of 'pinning' in Cmux, you can use 'Move Up' in the 'Threads' Sidebar in Zed

But the really nice feature that both Ghostty and Cmux had were the API. You could send messages to specific panes/workspaces/terminal windows etc. None of that exists in Zed yet.

In Claude Code .. pressing Cmd+v TWICE shows pasted text verbatim instead of the compacted version. Very helpful #til

Raycast is an amazing tool. I feel like I can definitely leverage it much more than I am today. Just added a script command called 'OCR' .. it uses the new Apple Vision Framework to do OCR on the image in my clipboard, and add the text back to the clipboard.

Claude Code terminal are the new Browser tabs. Better when vertical, too many to manage efficiently

hacked bitnet for finetuning, ended up with a 74mb file. It talks fine at 198 tokens per second on just 1 cpu core. Basically witchcraft. opensourcing later via @skunkworks_ai base here: huggingface.co/nisten/Biggie…

As you know, my explorations of the Gen AI space is ultimately all about creative control. You should be able to shape the generative matter using all your artistic sensibilities and your aesthetic sense. OpenAI's Sora is a huge technological leap, but what excites me the most about it is the modalities where it depends on input other than text alone. Such as video to video. Here's an example of how Sora can change an input video. Base video🧵

At border control today, an immigration officer asked me what I do. I told her I make generative art and explained a bit. Another officer looked over and asked “is that NFT?” I answered no, and started talking about gen art history (elevator-pitch version 😆). They let me pass. Hours after this conversation, I am still thinking about how NFTs have pumped new blood into this genre. They (at least) get the conversation started.

JAN 30. / Shaders. I already and regularly use shaders on different projects. That's is really an amazing tool for generative artists. "Volute", released on @artblocks_io on december 2022, was created with shaders. #genuary30 #genuary #genuary2024

Genuary 29. Signed Distance Functions. This is new to me. Just messing around and learning the basics. Also trying to get used to 'shaders', which I don't usually use and I still don't feel comfortable working with them. #genuary29 #genuary
