"Our data isn't ready for AI" is the most expensive sentence in enterprise technology. It sounds responsible. In practice it starts a multi-year data program with no decision attached to it, and AI never arrives. Our view at Arosplatforms: data readiness is not a precondition. It's a consequence of picking the decision first. Choose one high-volume decision your business makes every day. Then ask what that decision actually needs: which fields, from which systems, at what quality, refreshed how often. That list is almost always far smaller than the enterprise data estate, and you can fix it in weeks. Then build the agent, measure it against people doing the same work, and let production show you which data issues matter. Some you thought were critical won't be. Others will surprise you. Each new decision extends the clean data a little further. That's how a data foundation actually gets built. Start with the decision. The data work follows. #AI #DataStrategy #Leadership

Housing approvals stall in the permit office long before construction starts. A development application can arrive with hundreds of pages of drawings, studies and forms, checked against zoning bylaws, official plans, building codes and comments from a dozen departments. Planners spend much of their time chasing missing pieces. What we build for municipalities: - A completeness agent that checks each submission against the application requirements and drafts the deficiency letter - A zoning review agent that compares proposed setbacks, heights, density and parking against the applicable bylaw, with every finding cited to the clause and the drawing - A circulation agent that tracks comments from each department and flags conflicts between them - Status summaries applicants can understand Planners make every recommendation and council makes every decision. The system runs in Canadian hosting under the municipality's records rules. What to measure: days to a complete application, resubmission cycles, and planner time per file. #GovTech #SmartCities #GenAI

An agent that works in the pilot can still fail in production on cost alone. At pilot volume, nobody notices that every case calls the largest model three times. At a million cases a year, that line shows up in the CFO's review. So we engineer cost per decision from the first architecture diagram, not after the invoice. How we do it: - Route by difficulty. Classification and extraction go to small, fast models. Only hard reasoning steps go to frontier models, and only when the eval set shows they need to. - Cache what repeats. Policy text, product catalogues and system instructions are reused context, not new tokens on every call. - Batch what can wait. Overnight reconciliation does not need real-time pricing. - Set budgets per agent. Every agent has a cost-per-case target, alerting and a hard ceiling. - Re-test quarterly. Model prices and capabilities move fast, and the routing should follow the evidence. Cost is a design requirement, measured like accuracy. #LLMOps #AIagents #Toronto

Forest products companies plan around a resource that grows for decades and changes value every season. Matching harvest blocks, road access, haul distances, mill capacity, species and grade mix, weather windows and market prices is one of the hardest planning problems in Canadian industry. Much of it still runs on spreadsheets. How we'd architect fibre supply optimization: - A planning model that ties forest inventory, licence constraints and mill demand together - An optimizer that proposes harvest and haul schedules that maximize delivered fibre value, within allowable cut and environmental limits - An explaining agent that tells planners why a block moved up or down, and what it costs to override - A disruption agent that re-plans when fire, thaw or road closures hit and shows the options Foresters and planners approve every plan. Regulatory and Indigenous consultation commitments are hard constraints, never trade-offs. What we design for: delivered cost per cubic metre, mill downtime from fibre shortages, and plan stability week to week. #Forestry #Optimization #CanadaTech

Under Canadian privacy law, sending data to an AI provider doesn't move the accountability. It stays with you. PIPEDA's accountability principle means an organization remains responsible for personal information it transfers to a third party for processing, including a model provider. Quebec's Law 25 adds a privacy impact assessment before personal information leaves the province. Regulators expect you to know where data goes and what protects it. How we design for that on every Canadian deployment: - Map the full data path for each use case: prompts, retrieved documents, outputs, logs, and any provider-side retention - Prefer Canadian-region hosting and in-tenancy models where the data is sensitive - Put contractual protections in writing: no training on client data, retention limits, breach notice, sub-processor lists - Redact or tokenize personal information before it reaches any external model - Give customers clear notice in plain language, in English and French Sovereign AI isn't a slogan. It's a data-flow diagram you can defend. #AIGovernance #DataPrivacy #CanadaTech

In process industries, the riskiest document is often a routine change request. Management of change exists because small modifications to equipment, chemistry or procedures cause serious incidents. But MOC reviewers face hundreds of packages a year, each referencing P&IDs, hazard studies, procedures and past incidents. What we build for chemical and process plants: - An MOC review agent that reads the change package and pulls every related hazard study, drawing revision, procedure and prior incident - A gap check that flags missing elements: unreviewed hazard scenarios, procedures not updated, training not assigned, pre-startup review items open - A drafting agent that prepares the reviewer brief and the action list, each item cited to source The agent never approves a change and never touches plant control systems. Process safety engineers own every decision. What to measure: MOCs closed with open action items, rework after pre-startup review, and reviewer time per package. Safety programs fail at the paperwork seams. #ProcessSafety #IndustrialAI #EnterpriseAI

The most interesting model release this week was small enough to run on a single workstation. @huggingface released Carbon-X, an open model trained on DNA sequences and natural language, so researchers can ask questions about genetic variants in plain English. Its developers say it hasn't been validated in the wet lab yet, and we'd treat it exactly that way. What it confirms is a direction we already build toward for life sciences and other research-heavy clients: domain models that run inside your own environment, next to data you can't send to a third party. How we'd evaluate a model like this for a research team: - Run it in-tenancy only, with no data leaving the boundary - Test it on the team's own validated cases before anyone relies on an answer - Use it to prioritize and explain, never to replace the experiment - Log every query and output so scientific review can trace what the model said Specialist, local, evaluated. That's where a lot of enterprise AI value is heading. #AI #LifeSciences #OpenSourceAI

Indirect tax is thousands of small determinations a day, and an auditor can question any of them years later. For a Canadian enterprise, GST/HST, QST and PST rules shift by province, product, customer status and place of supply. Most of that logic lives in spreadsheets, a tax engine with stale mappings, and the heads of two people. What we build for tax teams: - A determination agent that reviews new products, vendors and contract types, proposes the tax treatment and cites the rule it relied on - A reconciliation agent that compares tax charged and paid in the ERP against the return, and explains each variance - An audit-defence agent that assembles the evidence for any transaction an auditor asks about: invoice, contract, exemption certificate, rationale The tax engine still calculates. Tax professionals approve every mapping change and sign every return. What to measure: mapping exceptions found before filing, recoverable input tax credits identified, and hours to answer an audit query. #TaxTech #FinanceOps #CanadaTech

Before we write a single prompt, we build the exam the agent has to pass. Behind every Arosplatforms deployment is a golden set: a few hundred real cases from the client's own work, with the right answer agreed by the people who do that job today. Here's how we build it. We sample deliberately. Routine cases, yes, but also the edge cases, the rare high-severity ones and the cases experts disagree on. We adjudicate. Two subject-matter experts label independently. Where they disagree, a senior owner decides and we write down why. That reasoning often becomes policy the agent follows. We score by severity. A wrong answer that a reviewer would catch is not the same as a wrong answer that pays a fraudulent claim. Each failure type has its own threshold. We keep it alive. Production overrides feed new cases in every month, and every model or prompt change runs against the full set before release. If you can't say what correct looks like, you aren't ready to automate it. #GenAI #LLMOps #AIGovernance

Warranty claims are an early-warning system most manufacturers only read in hindsight. The signal is already there: dealer repair narratives, part numbers, failure codes, mileage, build dates and supplier lots. It sits across systems and free text nobody reads at volume. Here's how we architect warranty intelligence: - A claims agent normalizes every claim, reading the technician narrative and mapping it to a consistent failure mode - An analytics layer clusters emerging failure patterns by platform, plant, build window and supplier lot - An investigation agent assembles the evidence pack for quality engineering: affected population, timeline, similar historical issues, supplier history - A claims-validation agent flags labour times and parts that don't match the failure for warranty review Engineers own root cause and every containment or recall decision. The system shortens the time to a credible signal. What we design for: days from first claim to confirmed issue, and cost recovered from suppliers with evidence attached. #Manufacturing #Automotive #EnterpriseAI

A commercial credit memo is mostly assembly, and assembly is where good analysts lose their week. When we build credit agents for a commercial lending team, the agent never makes the credit decision. It prepares the file the credit officer decides on. What we build: - Spreading: financial statements pulled into the bank's template, with every figure linked back to the page it came from - Covenant checks: ratios calculated against the term sheet, breaches and near-misses flagged with the math shown - Memo draft: borrower background, industry context, collateral and risk factors, in the bank's structure and cited to source - Monitoring: quarterly compliance certificates read and compared against covenants, exceptions routed to the relationship team Every number has a citation, and the analyst edits and signs. What to measure: time from complete package to credit committee, spreading error rate against analyst review, and covenant exceptions caught before the quarter closes. The decision stays with credit. The assembly doesn't have to. #FinTech #CommercialBanking #AIagents

Not every step in an enterprise agent needs a model that writes paragraphs. @OpenAI made its Decisions API generally available this week: a focused endpoint that returns a probability, a choice from a fixed set, or a score, instead of free text. We're testing it against our own golden sets because it matches a pattern we already design for. Most agent workflows are a chain of small, bounded calls. Is this document an invoice or a credit note? Which queue owns this case? Is this proposed action within policy? We treat each as a typed decision with allowed answers, a confidence threshold and a fallback to a human. Two things we check before anything changes in a client build. First, accuracy on the client's own cases, segment by segment. Second, where inference runs. The launch lists US and EU residency, so for Canadian workloads with residency requirements, that step stays on an in-region model. Bounded questions deserve bounded answers, measured and logged like any other control. #AIagents #LLM #EnterpriseAI

Most enterprise AI quietly adds a new handoff instead of removing one. The agent drafts something. A human checks it. Someone else approves it. A third team updates the system of record. The process now has one more step than it did before. That is not transformation. That is a new queue. When we design an AI system, we map every handoff in the current process first, then ask a hard question: which of these exist only because information was hard to gather? Those are the handoffs we remove. The agent assembles the evidence once, the right person decides once, and the approved outcome is written back to the system of record in the same flow. Handoffs that exist for real control reasons, such as segregation of duties or regulatory sign-off, stay. We make them faster, never invisible. If your AI rollout added a step, measure end-to-end cycle time, not task time. #AI #OperatingModel #Leadership

In a steel mill, the schedule is where margin is won or lost before the first slab is cast. Planners balance order due dates, grade transitions, width and gauge sequences, furnace and caster constraints, and maintenance windows. Most of it lives in spreadsheets and the heads of a few experienced people. This is the scheduling layer we build for metals producers: An optimization engine sequences orders across the caster and rolling mill against the plant's real constraints and transition costs. An explaining agent tells planners why the schedule looks the way it does, what each change would cost and which orders are at risk. A disruption agent re-plans options when a line goes down and drafts the customer impact summary for sales. Planners approve every schedule. The system never sends set points or changes plant control. What we measure: on-time delivery, transition losses, yield and planner hours spent re-sequencing. Better sequences, explained, beat a faster spreadsheet. #AI #Steel #Optimization

An AI agent is only as good as the screen the human reviews it on. We spend as much design time on the review experience as on the model. Here is what every reviewer screen we build includes. The recommendation, stated in one line, with the confidence band the agent actually earned in evaluation. The evidence beside it: the exact clause, record or transaction, one click from the source system. A diff, not a document: what changed from the input, so the reviewer checks the delta instead of rereading everything. Approve, edit or reject, and when they override, a short reason picked from a list we refine over time. A clear view of what the agent was not allowed to do, so nobody assumes it checked more than it did. Override reasons are our best training signal. They feed the next evaluation round directly. If reviewing the agent takes longer than doing the work, the agent has failed. #AIagents #HumanInTheLoop #Toronto

In a health system, the gap between the care delivered and the care documented has real financial and quality consequences. Clinical documentation integrity teams review charts to find missing specificity, then query physicians. It is skilled work, and there is never enough time to review every chart. This is the documentation integrity layer we build for health systems: A review agent reads the chart, including notes, labs, imaging reports and medications, and flags where documentation may not reflect the clinical picture, with every flag linked to the source evidence. A query agent drafts a compliant, non-leading physician query for the specialist to send. A coding support agent suggests codes with citations for the coder to confirm. Specialists decide what gets queried. Physicians decide what gets documented. Coders own the final codes. What we measure: review coverage, query response rates, and how often specialists accept the flag. Accurate records serve the patient first and the ledger second. #HealthTech #RevenueCycle #GenAI

Public sector AI in Canada starts with a question most vendors skip: what is the security category of the data? When we design AI systems for Canadian departments and agencies, the information classification drives the architecture, not the other way around. For Protected B work, here is what we design for: Inference and storage in Canadian regions, with services and configurations that fit the department's cloud security requirements. No prompts, outputs or telemetry leaving the approved boundary, including logs and model monitoring. Identity tied to departmental accounts, with retrieval that respects existing access rules. Open-weight models hosted inside the tenancy when hosted APIs can't meet the requirement. Security assessment evidence prepared as we build, not after. Public servants keep authority over every decision and every word that goes out. Sovereign AI is not a slogan. It is a set of boundaries you can show an assessor. #CanadaTech #GovTech #DataSovereignty

Retail shrink is rarely one problem. It is theft, receiving errors, vendor shortages, mis-scans and process gaps hiding in the same number. Most retailers see shrink only at the physical count, months after the cause. This is the shrink investigation layer we build for multi-store retailers: A signals agent watches POS voids, refunds, inventory adjustments, receiving variances and vendor deliveries for patterns by store, SKU and process. An investigation agent assembles a cited case: the transactions, the timeline and the likely cause category, separating process errors from suspected loss. A fix agent drafts the corrective action for the right owner, whether that is store operations, receiving or a vendor. Loss prevention teams decide every case. The agents never accuse individuals or take action against employees. What we measure: inventory accuracy between counts, time from signal to case, and the share of shrink traced to a cause. Find the process problem before the count does. #RetailTech #LossPrevention #AI

A capable coding model that runs on a laptop changes where we can use AI in regulated software teams. Recursive released Flint this week: a free, Apache 2.0 coding model built as a mixture-of-experts that, per TechCrunch, uses 2.5 billion of its 40 billion parameters at a time and runs locally. Here is where local coding models fit in our enterprise builds. Restricted environments: teams working on code that cannot leave the network, including core banking and critical infrastructure systems. Legacy comprehension: reading and explaining old codebases where sending source to an external API is not acceptable. Offline and edge engineering teams. Before any client uses one, we run it on their own code tasks, compare it to their approved hosted model, review the licence and provenance, and keep humans reviewing every change. Smaller tasks, clearer instructions and tests on every change. That is how local models earn trust. #GenAI #OpenSourceAI #SoftwareEngineering

Freight invoices are one of the quietest sources of leakage on a shipper's ledger. Accessorial charges, fuel surcharges, detention, re-weighs and duplicate bills arrive across carriers, formats and modes. Most teams can only audit a sample. This is the freight audit layer we build for shippers and distributors: An extraction agent reads every carrier invoice, bill of lading and proof of delivery, whatever the format. A reconciliation agent checks each line against the contracted rate, the tender, the shipment record in the TMS and the agreed accessorial schedule, and cites the exact clause behind every variance. A dispute agent drafts the carrier claim with its evidence attached. Freight analysts approve every dispute and every payment exception. The agents never pay or reject an invoice on their own. What we measure: audit coverage, recovered overcharges, dispute win rate and days to resolve. Auditing every invoice beats auditing the right sample. #Logistics #FinanceOps #AIagents
