Why? The rental market is pretty cooked everywhere: demand is at an all time high (high prices, limited housing, many 18-30y/o opt for shared apartments) + on top of that the search market is completely fragmented
To find a place nowadays there are two camps:
The social approach: Mostly through FB groups and stories to find apartments, sublets & roommates. There are way too many scams + you never know who you're going to land on. "Friends of friends" doesn't always work out, especially when moving to a new city or with specific time constraints
The rental site approach: Usually through agencies, where there's always a middleman charging $$$, higher rental costs, a fragmented market split across dozens of websites, 0 accountability for shitty landlords/tenants, and way less options (especially for single rooms/roommates)
lookout.now fixes this by gathering all listings/looking requests on a map and adding a layer of social trust and accountability:
You can reach out to other people and each account has a social profile with a detailed description of who they are, reviews, links to social media (IG/LinkedIn) and a profile verification system
After years of struggling to find rentals or roommates, I knew there had to be a better solution. My conclusion is that for a healthier market to exist,
Trust and visibility are key.
If you're renting out a place or looking to stay somewhere, try posting on Lookout! This is still in early stages so would appreciate it a lot :)
