Australia has a proud tradition of builders and innovators. Connecting this next generation with the global epicenter of AI is an important step in helping their ideas, companies and ambition reach the world.
Spending time with the @airwallex team including @lancectk, @shannonscott, @irvincsha, @RachaelRad, and @dankimxyz in addition to VCs and SF-based founders is not a bad way to spend a week in the Bay.

Enjoyed my conversation with @CarolinRothTV at this year's Wave by Vento event.
Our session was called The Rails Nobody Else Would Build, which was a great jumping off point to describe why @airwallex chose to take the path of max resistance nearly a decade ago and build the global infrastructure needed for the agentic banking era.

The Agentic Banking era will make it possible for small businesses to grow globally but not have to choose between expansion abroad and investment at home -- they go together.
They can reach new customers and markets overseas while hiring and investing in the communities where they started.
We’re already seeing this in Australia, Airwallex’s home market. Export revenue processed through @airwallex for our SMB customers grew more than sixfold, from A$2.3 billion in 2021 to A$14 billion in 2025.

Major takeaways:
- The biggest AI opportunities may not be “AI features” at all, they’re rebuilding entire workflows and infrastructure around what becomes possible when intelligence is cheap…
- Software is moving from being built exclusively for humans to being built for humans & agents. That changes everything from collaboration and interfaces to the underlying compute agents need to actually do work….
- The best AI companies are attacking problems where the old way was fundamentally constrained by human labor.. global compliance, coordination, software execution, etc..
- We’re still very early in figuring out what the company of the future looks like… smaller human teams, dramatically more leverage and potentially hundreds or thousands of agents operating alongside them…
- AI isn’t just creating a new software category… it’s causing us to rethink the architecture of the company itself….

There's a consistent correlation between high AI use and hifh revenue growth.
At worst it shows companies willing to try new things grow more
At best, AI is a major growth engine
Anywhere between those two points makes AI feel like a good use of your time as an SMB.

Non-adopters: 29%. They also trade with 2.7x more countries (8 vs 3).

Some economic disruption is destructive and some is expansive.
It's clear to me and what we are seeing from @airwallex customers is that AI has changed the speed of business (I'm calling this agentic speed). In corporate finance, work that used to happen in cycles — reconcile, review, close, decide, act — can increasingly happen continuously.
I think this is a good thing for small businesses. Capabilities that once required large finance teams, global infrastructure and deep operating resources are becoming more accessible.
Specifically we are seeing that a small company can operate more like a multinational, enter new markets faster and compete on a stage that used to belong to much larger companies.
I'm actually quite excited about this because we built Airwallex for this moment. Agentic speed will make businesses faster but also will change who gets to compete.
