Battle of Hastings. 14 October 1066
At one of the most well-known battles in Britain, William, Duke of Normandy, defeats the Anglo-Saxon Army under King Harold II. Harold, grievously wounded, is cut down and the Anglo-Saxon army flees the battlefield.
